Badab War: Updated 4/8 Fire Hawks Contemptor Dreadnought, page 3
« on: February 28, 2016, 05:41:43 AM »
Howdy. I just finished off some Fire Hawks terminators for the Badab War project. I dove in and got a ton of of resculpted MK VI beakies from Forgeworld (and combined with my MK VI bits from the new tactical and assault boxes), I'm starting to assemble a pretty decent sized pair of forces for recreating the Badab War. Call it nouveau Oldhammer. The other part of the project is using the new Betrayal at Calth game and translating it over to the Badab War. Since Betrayal at Calth is a marine vs marine game, it should translate well. I will be working up a deck of cards for both the loyalists and the secessionists as well as cards for each of the specific chapters we will be using in our group. Once I get my first Mantis Warriors tactical squad finished I'll be doing a Fire Hawks vs Mantis Warriors boarding action in my space ship interiors here http://thisveryblog.blogspot.com/2016/02/horus-heresy-project-betrayal-at-calth.html

Anyway, here are the Fire Hawks.

Also, here is my first Mantis Warriors tactical squad ready for paint. I'm excited to get these finished.

And last but not least, here is a sneak peak at the first of the Fire Hawks squad. I'm awaiting some bits in the mail to finish this squad off.

Hope you enjoy!

Awesome stuff - where did you source your MkVI heads and shoulder pads?  I'm not going to have enough shoulder pads for my few MkVI heads...(sigh).

I got all the pads and helmets from the new Forgeworld MK VI Corvus packs. They're expensive but I felt the project was worth the extra cost. Beyond that you can get a lot of bits from Hobby Titan, though you often end up with stuff you don't need.

I picked up 6 of the Forgeworld MK VI packs and then used the legs from the new GW tactical and assault boxes to add variety.

Absolutely gorgeous. Seeing your recipe for the red I'm ashamed, I tried to assemble a squad of these some time ago and I wasn't able to replicate the proper colours. So my admiration!

Thanks guys!

Elbows: yep. Unfortunately. It's my once a year splurge. Fortunately I have a very patient wife  lol

Cypher: I'd love to see some Astral Claws!

Suber: Thanks! It took me about a half dozen test models to nail down that process. I really like the chapter and how Forgeworld updated the original color scheme.

Great stuff, I like the colours on the Fire Hawks.  :-*
Nice to see someone doing Badab War, it was one of my favorite "historical" conflicts, even before the Forgeworld book. I'm (slowly, very slowly) building a small Howling Griffons force myself.

Me too. The Mantis Warriors were the first large force I had back in the Rogue Trader days and remained one of my favorites. I really liked how Forgeworld took the Badab War from a short article in White Dwarf and filled out the background to a pretty epic tale and setting in its own right. I like how they updated a lot of the old chapter colors too.

Howling Griffons are a cool chapter too. I'd love to see them when you paint some up!

Howdy! I updated the blog with the first Mantis Warrior painted from the new models. I found the process and color I was looking to achieve. So now I should be able to crank some of these puppies out.

Thanks! Doing the helmet made me really nervous. I know I'll have to do at least 40 of them which I'm not looking forward to...

I'm thinking of cutting a stencil on thin clear plastic to trace onto the helmet with a sharp pencil.
