Here are a couple of snake-aliens or mutants.

Wow, those are really well painted.   You not only have amazing brush skill, but a magical ability to pick colors that work well together.

I'm curious who makes those models.

They look like Northstar's "Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago Snake-Men" ... converted ...

Yay! keep it going! Rusty wasteland marines look great. I've gone to great lengths to find alternatives for 'civilian' powered armour trying to find or build something looking a bit different than marines, but this actually looks just as good. Might give it a try too.

Thanks, all!

Yes, those are Frostgrave snakemen, one with some GW gun added.

area23: removing the backpack from the space marines makes them look significantly different, I think.

I was going to use the snakemen in today's multi-player MDRG game, but yesterday afternoon, I had a different idea: space monkeys!

I kitbashed five of them and painted them up in time for the game. Alas, that meant I'd slathered them with gloss varnish before taking a photo, but here they are anyway. They had a successful debut, winning the game by a whisker, despite being 50 to 100 points weaker than the five other warbands.

These are very simple paintjobs, but I was pleased with how they turned out. There's something about MDRG that's a great spur to just knock out a few miniatures to get on the table. I might make a few more of these, so that two squads could work in unison.

And here's another speed-painting experiment. I'd been thinking about camouflage; the space monkeys almost ended up in urban-camo robes. Then I thought about painting some creature to match the gravelly basing scheme I use for our sci-fi miniatures. Tyranids were the obvious candidate; we've got loads kicking around after I bought a second-hand job lot for about a fiver a few years back. I've tried various schemes out on them, but they've all been a bit daunting to repeat on however many we have (not to mention my son's Space Hulk genestealers ...).

But this might work. I painted base and mini all in one: one base coat for both, one wash and one drybrush. Then all I did was tint the muscly areas, paint the eyes and touch the teeth up in pure white. Drying time for the wash is the main concern; otherwise, it takes no time at all. So I'm going to do a load like this. I'm thinking of running an MRDG scenario with a hive of aliens as the main environmental hazard and various spawning points around the table (maybe six: d6 for each at the end of each turn; a 6 indicates a spawn, with a roll on a table to determine number and type - very much in the Klendathu vein).

This whole thread is delightful and makes me want to play MDRG again. I love those space monkeys: Mantic Orx heads on Skaven bodies?

Yes - with arms from Warlord Games Wehrmacht (and Frostgrave gnolls in the case of the leader).

I've been speed-painting tyranids for this weekend's Klendathu-tinged MDRG game. These are taking about 20 minutes a piece, I reckon: grey base coat, Nightshade wash, white drybrush, Camoshade wash on select bits, then eyes and teeth in white and eyes in red and yellow. The tongues, which are blue with a Nightshade wash and some lighter highlights, are the fiddliest bits. I've got the highlights on those to do on most of the swarm, along with the base edges. I hope to have doubled the horde's size by Sunday afternoon if the Six Nations allows.

I'm quite pleased with how these look given their minimal treatment. If I wasn't planning to use them as stealthy, camouflaged creatures, I'd do the bases a Martian orange-red for contrast. I may yet revisit them to do that at some point in the future.
