Ottoman 18th Century Army - New Units
« on: March 13, 2016, 01:54:19 PM »
Tried a simple conversion to see if plastic figures might be used for the infantry in 18th Century Ottoman armies.

I am looking for a balance between something that is realistic and a playable, interesting army that will provide another opponent for my SYW Austro-Hungarians and GNW Russians. Not breaking the bank will also be a consideration for the project. More blather on the blog(here)

I love your idea.. I am thinking about Ottoman infantry for Egyptian campaign of Napoleon, and I scored a winner here.

Victrix French and Austrian I have had plenty (like 30+ per box) of unused  hands with muskets so weapons wont be any problem (if there will be any- I doubt that difference will be visible on the table), and whole miniature looks top notch.

That's a cunning idea. I will have to look out for boxes of spares on Ebay...

Some infantry conversions from Perry Zouaves (first base of three.)

Four of the figures have my own cast up arms attached and the chap shooting has the arms from a Warlord ECW musketeer grafted on. The standard bearere is a Brigade Games Napoleonic Ottoman figure. The novelty of casting up my own components might have worn off by the time I finish this unit and paint up a Warfare Miniatures one to compare to it...

Very nice work!
Not sure if they'd be so colourful and uniform at this time, but that's really not of such great importance.

Oooo, that's a sweet idea.  I've been considering other opponents for my Russians (other than the Swedes...) so this seems quite a reasonable way to build up a suitable army.

I haven’t been able to find definitive information on uniforms,  so I have decided to do some units more regular looking and some less. In case I want to differentiate units by quality for some games.

I finally completed the first unit of these converted Zouaves:

Also started on some of the excellent Warfare Miniatures Ottoman foot:

These are their Bosniak / Irregular infantry. I shall use a bunch of them as Albanians and similar Ottoman 18th Century mercenaries / militia.

No gaming or other group activities means I have time to take some pictures of where I am with my Ottoman project:

Those are Warfare figures, they are making up a decent proportion (and growing) of my plans...A bit more blurb on my Workbench blog.

This mob is a mixture of Old Glory, Hinchliffe and some of my own castings.

Great work! I do enjoy seeing Ottomans. I really wish a company would put out a set of multi-part plastics for Ottomans.
