Firelock games 'Blood & Plunder'
« on: March 13, 2016, 08:11:42 PM »
I just noticed that Beasts of War are plugging a forthcoming gme for historical pirate action. Bad news is it looks like it's going to be a kickstarter.  Could be interesting though!

Beasts of War video (interview starts about 5 minutes in)

I'm hugely interested...as I keep going in/out of pirate stuff, but the miniatures (assuming they're produced for the game?) look pretty cool.  Earlier than other games I've seen as far as timing.  Can't wait to see where this goes...

Here are some screen shots I grabbed while watching the video:

Solid 17th Century - the author in the video indicates this is a "historical" ruleset and far less Hollywood (he mentions firelocks giving away Buccaneers attacking a position at night etc.)

The fact it's historical based rather than Holywood based is the interesting thing for me. Will be interesting to take a gander at the rules anyway. As you say the miniatures look interesting!

Historically, the lit match of a matchlock could be seen at night.

Sorry, that's the one I meant.

I agree, interesting, nice to see some historical knowledge being applied to this genre  8)

I'm really interested in this as well... I've been a long time history buff, and a fan of pirates as well, and craved a game that focuses on blending those elements (rather than another game designed for the more pulp pirate style that could be used for historical actions).

The fact that Bannerson Little is involved, is a huge selling point for me. I just hope the design of the game suits to more "platoon" level action than small "war band" style skirmishes (or at least easily accommodates both "scales").
If I knew who the evil genius was, I wouldn't need a diabolical plot to find him...

Hey everyone! my name is Mike, I'm the creator of the game. I'm glad to hear i'm not the only nut out there who has been hungry for some more authentic pirate action :)

Sir_Theo, fear not the kickstarter! We have good base funding and currently have 2 ships and 28 unique models ready to be produced right now and have a rulebook layed out and ready to go...just need to get through more play testing and get through the Kickstarter before we send it off to the printers.

michaelsbagley, the game will indeed be a "platoon" level game. Models are grouped into units and the game has an average model count of between 25-40 per side but it's certainly possible to play much larger than that of course!

I'd be happy to answer any questions you all may have (so long as it's not something I'm sworn to secrecy on!).

Mike,

Nice to see you on here.  One silly question...ships.  Resin or another method?  I was secretly hoping somebody like 4Ground had cracked the mystery on making quality 3D ships.

I've never found a solution to ships I really like.

I told myself that last year...and then I started a game company! Lol

Hey Elbows, the ships will be made from a white plastic resin. If I may ask, what do you not like about the ships you have encountered?
