Catholic-Imperialist Army 1632
« on: March 20, 2016, 06:13:27 AM »
Hi folks

The thirty years war is my favourite historical period, and a few weeks ago decided my army needed an upgrade. You might ask why, but I have been painting but not doing all the details, just enough to play with them - which is obviously totally wrong. So I decided that they should be as detailed as possible.

These are what I did in the last weeks - Johan Tserclaes Graf Tilly and Gottfried Heinrich zu Pappenheim - two battalia commanders. I had started with Tilly because I like the model a lot. The tercio was next, a unit already 'done' but added details and a few pikemen tp have a large unit, 2 sergeants for the musketeers and new flags. Then 2 cuirassier units and after them Pappenheim. He is Warlord's Earl of Essex model, and the ensign/bodyguard is a simple conversion from 3 models.

Models are Warlord Games and flags by Flags of War.

Very nice. Warlord Games' Tilly and the Earl of Essex are two of my favourite figures.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Oddly enough, the most time I use on the Thirty Years War is researching flags. Information is quite scarce. It's quite an obsession and I guess I'm giving FlagsofWar a headache each time he hears from me! lol

Nice work - they look great....I really admire how you did a basic paint job to get them on a table THEN worked over them again to add the detail...and the flags look excellent

Cheers folks! :)

Another cuirassier unit - this time Pappenheim's loyal troopers. Used the dregs of black wash to make the armour look dull. Added only a little water to it. Their boots are a bit different than other units - I like some variety between units.

His battalia has now 3 cuirassier units, thinking what to add next.........
