Green stuff - where do you get yours?
« on: April 03, 2016, 12:13:30 PM »
I'm almost out - thanks to the LPL.   ::)

It's years since I bought any, and I don't use much so small(er) quantities at a sensible price.  Where should I buy it?  (UK only.)

Definitely from Troll Trader. I usually get it from their eBay shop rather than their web store. Always fresh off the roll, the more you buy the cheaper it is (I normally get 36").

6" £2.50 free postage

36" £6.95 + £1.95 postage

Thanks.  Ordered.  I went for the "short" option as my last pack has taken me about 5 years to use.   ;)

How soft is it meant to be? Pre-mix and post-mix? Every time I buy some it is very hard. But in that recent video the Perry's did for "How it's Made" the putty Michael is using seens very soft.

The older it is (and the colder it is) the harder it will be. Working it will warm it up, which deals with the temp issue but as far as I'm aware there's nothing you can do if it has aged (though you can slow down ageing by refrigeration).

The softest pack I ever bought was from GW, used immediately: it was also the most expensive!  Mind you, it was so soft (and sticky) that after mixing I had to let it stand for a bit before I could do anything useful with it.

The individual 'tubes' of yellow and blue will last longer than the bi-ribbon as there's no mixing (contamination) due to contact in storage. That said, I find the bi-ribbon to be more convenient.

I don't use very much so I buy it off ebay
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

I usually buy off e-bay (little and often rather than huge quantities as I find that fresher Green Stuff is better).

This may help;

Definitely agree with this - I get all of mine from Troll Trader, because they're quick and reliable, and it's always been fresh. And I get through a lot of it... :D

Yup. Before sculpting I usually dunk me hands in a sink of warm water. Unstiffens the joints for mixing, and unstiffens the GS when the heat's transferred to it.

I still have a fair bit in the freezer to get through, but I always go to Heresy Miniatures for mine, in tube form.

And to Barnaby: polymeric systems recommends a 3:2 mix of yellow:blue for general sculpting, these days. Definitely makes it softer! TBH I wouldn't have recommended GS too often, before that.
