Looking good! The fleshy-pink colour really works for House Bolton!

Silly question but what manufacturer is the mini from?

Its a Bretonnian spearman, I am not sure which manufacturer it is. Some GW Warhammer affiliated company. Maurauder Miniatures, perhaps? They are heroic 28 scale, so they fit well with Oldhammer and Gamezone. I have about 20 more ready to go. The pike is from my miniforge, inspired by the Bolton troops at the Battle of the Bastards as seen in the TV series. The pavise is a GW Tomb King shield, which I picked because of it's size, shape and the skull shield buckle which I thought could be incorporated in the flayed man motif.  I will however not stick to one motif, but do a several variations of the House Bolton heraldry (a red flayed man on pink de sang). More on that later.

Now that shield is clever! It's quite disturbing, like a midget was skinned and nailed to it.

What a comeback to this thread! Very nicely done, fits the Bolton theme perfectly!

Re: Hammers thread of Ice and Fire, Bolton shields

My 20 something Bolton pikemen are nearing completion so I thought I'd show my pavise artwork before I glue them onto the grunts.

As most of you know, the Bolton colors are ”rose gouttée-de-sang, a flayed man gules", that is a skinned man on on a pink field splattered with blood drops. This is really a classical heraldry horror as pink is the same as red, meaning a red man on a red field with a scatter of red droplets.

To circumvent this I have done the pink in a light flesh tone and the skinned man and blood in a blackish red with a deep red highlight.

Unfortunately the shoddy lighting have tinted the pictures a bit yellow. The shields have a more pinkish hue which I did not manage to restore in Photoshop.

These are based on GW Tomb Kings shield of which most have a (surprise, surprise!) skull buckle. I have in some case cut this off but in others incorporated them in the design of the flayed man. I have added an anchor spike at the bottom of each shield.

Various studs are either metal or over painted in deep red.

Those pavises are great, I like the variety. Well done man :)

An action shot of my just completed Boltons.

A rather messy composition. I find it hard to set up miniature glamour shots in the cramped space I call my 'atelier'. You cannot, for example, see much of the Bastard of Bolton.

I will fuck about with the individual and small group shots in Photoshop later.

Pike command headed by Roose Bolton himself, sans chiennes.

Pike command, headed by the Bastard of Bolton, Ramsay Snow, also without dogs.

Too over exposed to conjure away in Photoshop, I am afraid.  I will reshoot the rest to see if I can do better.
