A Galore of Gatling Guns
« on: April 15, 2016, 12:34:12 AM »
I've just added a sprue of ten pintle-mounted Gatling Guns (in 15mm scale) to my Shapeways shop at http://shpws.me/M46k.

I'm in the process of building Her Majesty's Armoured Steam-Landship Improbable, which will be needing a few, and it occurred to me that having some guns available separately might be useful for this and that.

I know that 15mm isn't a much-favoured scale for VSF gaming, but it's my favourite scale, which is why I make stuff in it :)

Very good! :) I'm working in 28mm at the moment (40k but using VSF miniatures-various steam punk and historical + scratch builds to use as Imperial Guard) but I also see 15mm as an attractive scale-certainly better for large scale battles than 28mm and yet still large enough to have good looking infantry and the like. I just wish more people used the scale.
Anyway-very nicely done :) I don't need any right now but I'll remember these if I ever do (perhaps for 'Martian Front' or if I ever get around to making that 15mm ACW army for Black Powder that I've been thinking about).

Moving rapidly to divest myself of 25+mm and move to 15mm.

Beautiful weapons noted on "build" list.

As long as you've been trying, I'd have thought you'd be cleared out by now.  lol

I HAVE noticed you tempted back, now and then.

Fitz, I'm currently working on aeronefs in 28, but long ago decided I'd have bigger battles with smaller ships, so this will be a 'on the list of soon to need.'

Now, Glenn, you know I've got your email. Just not sure I'm up for 'the West'.

I'll ask others near.

Fitz, have you considered other guns? Nordenfeldts, Mitrailleuse, for instances?

Yes. I've done a sprue of Lewis guns with pole mounts as well, to arm vehicles and fortifications.

The thing is, I tend to do this sort of thing as I need them for specific projects. I'll take on commissions for specific items if I don't have too much else on (and if it interests me), but I'm definitely in the 'hobbyist' class when it comes to designing this stuff.

I have never done any of these things. I was wondering how hard is it to size up or down something like this? I know a lot of people, myself included, that would like to get these for 28mm projects.

It depends. Just re-sizing to a larger scale is a piece of cake, but of course the detail will tend to look rather... chunky. To re-size properly, a lot of the model would have to be re-built.

I agree with HerbyF. Depending on price, I too would be interested in a dozen 28mm pedestal mounted Gatling guns.

The cost of printing FUD resin is based on volume, and scaling up from 1/100 to 1/56 a little more than triples the material volume, and thus the price.
