Flying Saucers?
« on: January 01, 2009, 09:16:11 PM »
Still thinking about '50s sci fi movies, anyone know of any flying saucers in production? I'm sure I saw one when trawling for 50s aliens, but cant find it again. Would settle for a suitably sized toy or model kit or even something I could scratchbuild with readily available materials.

Even so, if you wanted to making 50's style flying saucers isnt really a hard thing to do. The right shaped plates or bowels with some fuddly bits and your in business.  :-)

You are so right.  I made one from empty plastic food packaging about half a year ago; cost next to nothing:

The pound shop on Scarborough seafront has flying-saucer style computer mice.
Not a bad size - about 3 inches diameter - made in two tone grey/silver with a convenient hole in the underside that makes a flying stand easy to fit.
Should look ok as a 28mm 1/2 man (alien ?) scout ship or a 15mm squad vehicle.

Being a cheapskate I've kept the packaging to see if it will work as a mould for plaster cast versions too.

Cheers folks, The Lindberg has won. still got to decide on my aliens, torn between Brigade's Greys, 3D's Thrade and Spugs, but plenty of time to decide.

I'm anticipating this one....

It's listed as 1/72, but I think it will fit my little green men from Brigade Games  :D

That is pretty cool. If they are a decent size I might end up using the Lindberg for Brigade Greys and the Pegasus for 3D Thrade.
