Thank you all for you comments. These guys finally saw some action over the weekend as I hauled them (along with The Boy's Orks) over to a friends to introduce him and his sons to the game.

There are more pictures and a bit of a description of what went down - I wouldn't really call it a full report:

Here are a few pics of the action...

Looks like a fun time for all.   Keep them rolling dice and maybe a few years down the line you will be able to get into historical games.  My son only has limited interest in miniature games but when he hit high school WWII was more intersting.

I recently dug this force out and started a Reorg for 8th Edition. The organization of the Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum has changed considerably - at least in the Index Imperium (perhaps it will change again when the new Astra Militarum Codex is released in the next few months). Things that were "Troops" are now "Elites" (Special Weapon Squads, Headquarters Squads, etc) or "Heavy Support" (Heavy Weapon Squads). After a little sorting and moving around of things I realized I had just about enough to put together a Battle-Forged "Brigade Detachment" (Which seems an odd term for a force that is essentially company strength... a light company at that!). To fill out the Fast Attack role I needed a couple more Scout Sentinels....

This is the latest Scout Sentinel I finished - which finishes of the three I need for the Fast Attack element of my "Brigade Detachment".

All three of them together. The one in the middle I bought off eBay already assembled - which is why it doesn't have the camouflage net...

In the end the force will look something like this:

The force will look something like this:

Company Commander (HQ)
Command Squad (Elites)
Special Weapon Squad (Elites)
Heavy Weapon Squad (Heavy Support)

Platoon Commander (HQ)
Command Squad (Elites)
3x Infantry Squads (Troops)
Special Weapon Squad (Elites)
Heavy Weapon Squad (Heavy Support)

Platoon Commander (HQ)
Command Squad (Elites)
3x Infantry Squads (Troops)
Special Weapon Squad (Elites)
Heavy Weapon Squad (Heavy Support)

Ogryn Squad (Elites)

Ratling Sniper Squad (Elites)

3x Scout Sentinels (Fast Attack)

That makes:
3xHQ
6x Troops
8x Elites
3x Fast Attack
3x Heavy Support

I have a few more eBay-purchased heavy weapons inbound to fill out those Heavy Weapon teams (previously I had no heavy weapon squads - all the heavy weapons were organic to the other infantry and headquarters squads). I'll post some more pics of the entire force when those arrive and get painted.

That's a fine force you have there.  So good to see proper metal figures!

Your loyalist but great looking Guard nonetheless mate, don't fancy adding a tentacle here and there? Worshipping Chaos comes with a good medical plan :)

A few more Heavy Weapons teams for the Jungle fighters.

I have a pair of auto-cannons and a pair of mortars to finish and I'm done with the re-org of this force (then I'll be on to the Tallarn...).

This link didn't work for me, but I found them on your blog! WOW! that is an impressive force... Not sure how you'd organize if for 8th!? You'd only get half of that into a "Brigade detachment" (just... don't get me started on the detachment names....) - but then you'd need more HQ elements for the second "Brigade detachment" to field the rest...? so... a second company commander for your company...? ( maybe you could call him the 2.I.C. or the CSM)

Anyway... I painted up a few more for my Guaiacan Commandoes...

Heavy Weapon Squad with mortars.

Just a couple more Autocannons to finish off the force.

I finally finished off the last of the stuff I have for this force.

Auto-cannon Heavy Weapon Squad

The complete force. I don't think I'll be adding anything else to this force - I have a pile of Tallarn to work on now!
