Rumble in the Jungle
« on: January 06, 2009, 02:53:28 PM »
News flash! The super sentient gorilla Emperor Ape has built a De-Evolution Ray in the jungles of Madinka-dinka. Our heroes, mostly members of the New Olympians, but led by crimebuster Crimson Cowl, have arrived at the scene to stop him. As our heroes approached, they are ambushed by the members of the Syndicate! It is race against time to stop the villians before the world's population is turned to monkeys.
The Crimson Cowl with his brilliant intellect, assesses the situation and decides to make a move around the back of the falls where Emperor Ape has set up his devious ray. His is quickly incapacitated by a hail of energy blasts from the armored Arsenal.
The pink muscled menaced Behemoth super-leaps into the air and knocks Griffon from the sky.
Two heroes are now out. Halfway up the falls, KIllshot, the murderous mercenary, rains bullets down on the heroes below. He is quickly overpowered and outgunned by the combined might of Manticore and A.J.A.X.. KIllshot falls unconscious into the falls and down the river.
The larcenous lycanthrope She-Wolf leaps into action against Manticore, but is shot up by AJAX and plummets into the falls after Killshot.
In the jungle, Doc Titan and Mechgor have clashed in jungle shaking brawl. Both absorb the blows but Doc Titan comes out on top.
High atop the falls, Emperor Ape has managed to get the ray working and is about to fire when he is overwhelmed by heroes. A struggle ensues, but at the last moment, Emperor Ape manages to throw the switch, and awhoooo, Woot! Woot! Ahhhahhh!!!

Excellent re-purpose of the Clix Baron. I look forward to the next chapter of our heroes...

Great looking game and figs!  How did you do the water on the falls?

The falls are a piece of acetate and hot glue.

Are your river sections purely paint or are they a combination of paint and hot glue?  I really like them and would like to repaint mine in a similar manner.  Any hints would be very welcome

I really dig it! :-* :-* :-*

I like the 'flying stands' made out of bottles or vases or whatever they are.

Wicked cool man!

Those are excellent, those clickeys have painted up really well. I may rethink my opinion of them. Nice one.  :)

Very , very nice minis and writeup. The only thing I would add to the minis is a coat of matt varnish, for my aste they are a bit to "wet"...
But that is just taste...

I am also a big fan of the Clix minis. Very easy to convert and a HUGE range of affordable minis to choose from.
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - http://www.adpublishing.de

The river sections don't have any hot glue, just painted then given a high gloss.
The flight stands are plastic champagne glasses with the base removed, then a washer with a magnet glued on (all my figs are on washers so they stick to magnetic paper in my cases).
I kind of like the shiny finish when comes to supers.
Normally my write ups are more comic-booky:

I agree with Agis.  I had a friend who gloss coated all his figs.  I even told him once that the only reason he didn't take first place in a painting competition I was judging was because of the shine.  Years later he matte coated all his work and has never looked back.  He can't understand to this day why he was ever so attached to the shine.

Each to his own, though, I still think your setup is aces!

Shiny stuff just looks unreal to me. It might fit the Silver Surfer or suitable alien heroes...
But as you said: Each to his own!

Great Stuff!! I really enjoyed your game report and the pics, I love superhero comics but I don't game  them and rarely check out this section of the forum, sure glad I did  today ! That waterfall and the champagne flute flight stands are great ideas and  I'll try to use them in my pulp jungle and rocketeer projects Thanks

I love this!! Recently ordered Supersystem (2nd. Ed.) and Chaos in Carpathia from Old Glory UK... must be here soon....  ;D

The falls are a piece of acetate and hot glue.

Acetate as in 'artificial silk'?

I want to build such a rock, too  :o 8)  ;D
