Sometime next month, I´ll get a number of the new Jaffa Warrior miniatures, and so I thought I´d actually do something I´d planned for years, namely a Stargate collection (very small, though).

For starters, I´ve painted some defective Delta Force miniatures by Gripping Beast to represent the Terran Side.

Sorry for the bad picture.

Some Jaffas will follow in mid-february.

I've been thinking about some Stargate gaming too, I was looking at using some TAG British Paras as my SG Team.

I've seen some nice scenery bits of a gate (described as a standing circular mirror) and a sarcophagus here:

http://www.shieldwallgames.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=16

But they are scaled for 20mm, not 28mm.

Has anyone seen any 28mm scale bits, like a gate or a dhd?

Monolith do the same Sarcophagus, another Sarcophagus, Gate and Coverstone in 28mm. All done by the same designer as the Shieldwall Sarcophagus. There are some pics here:

But I believe that the Monolith guy doesn't advertise these on his web site, you have to ask for them specifically. And he stopped mentioning them on the Stargate Gamers list when Eureka were slapped down for making unlicenced jaffa, so they may not even be still available....

I've got the Monolith gate and sarcophagus before then though, and they painted up great.

You saw those:

Reports from Stargate Gamers are that these are true 25mm rather than 28mm, and don't look bulkier enough for jaffa, also the staff weapons are prone to breaking. Also the pricing and quatities leave something to be desired: there are 4 variants for each head style but you can only buy them in packs of 3! Why not 4 and all the variants in one pack?

In the absence of Eureka's fabulous jaffa, Sheildwall Games also do 28mm jaffa or rather "Armies of Mythology" as they call them - the last two packs on this page are 28mm:
http://www.shieldwallgames.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=5
There's also at least a third pack of jaffa armed with zats - I bought a pack at last year's Warfare - but that's not on the website but it does exist. These jaffa are OK, and way cheaper than the new official jaffa.

Well, I´ll be painting up a dozen of those soon (one of each model), getting 15 of them as payment, so I´ll be able to comment on the quality first-hand.

I have to say that if they actually are 25mm, that´ll make them much more attractive to me.

I spoke with the Shieldwall games people at a show end of last year, it sounded like they were getting into trouble about their ' I can't believe it's not Stargate' range.

Shieldwall are much, much cheaper but those Phoenix ones look really cool, the price isn't good but is no worse than GW.

As the Eureka ones are no longer available, does anyone have a side by side comparison of the two current Jaffa ranges, Shieldwall and Phoenix?

Dragons horde/MJ figures produce the mythology ones in the uk

http://dragonshoard.co.uk/mjFigures/20mm/Armey%20of%20Mythology/armey%20of%20mythology.htm

they used to produce some quite good ones in 28mm too but were hit the same time as Eureka

the Yahoo group was a great community and the Death glider and Gate plus Soapys SG1 and a Zat cannon were looking good too. I could cry when this all got pulled and in the end sold all my stuff to a good friend :(

the Eureka minis fetch ridiculus prices on e-bay now the last batch I saw were £20 for 3

what a shame

Shieldwall games also make a really nice resin stargate but it doesn't seem to be on their site.

It's listed as a standing circular mirror in the D&D scenery section.

Seeing it in the flesh it looks a little too small for 28s, perfect for 20s.

Monolith Stargate, DHD and Sarcophagus

Here are my examples of Monolith's Stargate stuff:

Monolith Stargate and DHD

Closeup of Stargate with event-horizon inset
Figures are Foundry Street Violence Mercs

Stargate with iris inset

Monolith Sarcophagus

Monolith's Stargate came with two insets: event-horizon and iris. There was optional stone top cover but I didn't get that. The stone base was also optional. You will note that it doesn't match the "standard" gate base as seen in the TV show. I keep meaning to scratch build one that does.

The DHD had two protruding arms at the top but these were very fragile and came off in cleaning even though I was careful.

If you can get hold of these, I can recomend them. They paint up easily and there a few airholes.

My Phoenix jaffa arrived in the post this morning. My initial impressions are that the Stargate Gamers reports are being too harsh.

I will try and photograph the Eureka, Shieldwall and Phoenix side-by-side over the weekend so everyone can compare them.
