Sounds good. It's the idea of a tank moving from one side of the board to the other in one turn that makes me think hard on the matter. My issue is lack of room to keep anything bigger than a 3' board.

Well i theory the fastest units could move 15 inches in a turn, but that's where terrain comes in.

That's what I always say, then change my mind again! I do different things in the two scales now - 15s for adventures, pulpy characters and RPG type gaming, 6mm for 'military' stuff. I like the abstraction of rules that work for multibased squads too, it's a different thing.

Well i theory the fastest units could move 15 inches in a turn, but that's where terrain comes in.

That's my problem, though: terrain

I love making it and having it. Having a few squads 6mm would be manageable, it's the terrain that takes too much time...

Lovely looking units, and those skimmers are definitely a highlight.

Evening all,

Boxed off another force here - mostly Brigade Models' Hammer' Slammers range. These were a bit of an experiment in Army Painter coloured primer, which on the whole was pretty successful.

I 'm particularly pleased with the big artillery units - they've got a real sci-fi feel to them. Love'em.

Great to see some more progress in this topic!

I too have been finding that nice bright colours make 6mm pop on the table.

I really like the basing on these as well, what is your method?

Very blue indeed! Nicely done. My Brigade models recently arrived and look pretty good. Just need some bases now.

Thanks both - I'm very pleased with them.

I really like the basing on these as well, what is your method?

Same basing as I use for my 15mm and my 28mm too.

Vallejo 'desert sand' texture paste.
Then I paint the whole surface with Vallejo Model Air Sand (Ivory). I like the model air range for this because it runs nicely, which is handy for painting bases.
Then I use my homemade 'glaze' - it's about 10:1 Vallejo Poyurethane gloss with vallejo german camo beige. It's quite thin and works really nicely to shade the sand (it's a little more contrast then it looks in these images) and also to sort of 'flatten' the texture once it's matted.
Then I use silfor moss pads and 0.5mm flock (I think the colour is bizarrely called 'spring') before I spray with Testor's - it helps them stick.

It's really easy, and I hate drybrushing - so much so that I've forgotten how to do other types of basing!

It's washed out in these pics a bit, but if you take a look at this image you'll see the effect well - everything sandy coloured (including background rocks) was achieved in this way: https://bladesandblastersdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_0246-1-e1493989235951.jpg

Great blue. After the AP spray are you doing a selective wash to shade, and then an edge highlight and a fine point highlight?

Thanks Dave,

I do:

Spray,
heavy wash (neat) with the blue army painter ink (unlike the paints, I really like like the inks)
drybrush original
drybrush highligh
Take original blue and repaint some nice, flat panels - neatens it up a little compared to a pure drybrush paintjob
Paint some light, spot highlights on corners, along some edges etc (mostly easily seen in 3rd and 4th photos).

Then just details etc.

Works pretty well for me - I'll definitely be using coloured primers (providing I can get  a matching brush on) for vehicles in future. I won't do it on infantry again - they look a bit crap.

Hiya folks,

I’ve been working on this force for a little while, lots of new things (pigment basing – didn’t work, the matte spray washed it away!), micron pens (for the chipping on the Mechafront mech) and Shapeways minis (the very excellent power armour, from the very excellent Hardware Studios).

Other than the fact I wasted my time with the pigment, I’m pretty pleased with these. The very few tiny patches of pigment that are left on the bases don’t look good now, so I’ll go back in and cover those with more moss pads.

The power armour have small glowing eyes, which hasn’t really photographed well, but I’m really pleased with it in the flesh – just wish I wasn’t having endless issues with my Dullcote. I’m thinking of moving on to Tamiya TS-80 spray, which I know scale modellers use a lot - anyone have any experience with it?

Love that. I've been wanting to get my own mech fix lately and have been leaning towards battletech for nostalgia purposes.
Those little suits are great. Kind of like the Elementals.
