Thanks guys, can't recommend Claymore enough, I could've happily built an army from just them.

HappyChappy: That's one of the Manderly brothers. His mounted brother also sports a gentlemanly mustache:

Thank you! I intend to play with Oathmark from Osprey when it comes out later this year. Written by Joseph McCullough of Frostgrave fame.

In the meantime, I have had a few games of 9th Age quick starter rules. They released a northern themed army list with giant wolves, so easy fit there.

Will be interested to see how they operate - I’m after a simple fast play set myself.

Not been as productive in February as January, despite a week long holiday. Did finally manage to finish these though, Mormont outriders.

As you can see they have been joined by two characters, Bad Squiddo's lovely Lyanna Mormont model and a ten year old Eowyn model. One of the first models I painted after getting back into wargaming as an adult. Still a paintjob I'm very happy with, though I have touched up a few spots. Mostly as an excuse to field the model I figure she could be say Alysanne Mormont, middle sister to Dacey and Lyanna. Still alive in the books as far as I recall.

What you think?

They gel really well as a unit - I’d missed the lady Mormont figure...now added to my next shopping list.

Agreed, they look great together as a unit! And the choice of shade of green really stands out, well done!

I missed him before, but is the guy to Eowyn's right one of the new Perry HYW plastics, but with a Light Cavalry head? How did you find the head fit on him? Was a lot of cutting and filing needed?

Keep up the great work!

No, it's a light cavalry body with Agincourt arms. Forgot to mention it (just plain forgot about it) in the build post. In the back row are two head swapped Agincourt models, but they use larger heads from Oathmark/Fireforge. It's doable but better if you plan on covering the join with a cloak or fur collar or something.

Thank you Captain!

Oh and HappyChappy, the base for the green is P3 Iosan Green, shaded with Scale75 Boreal Green and highlighted with a mix of Iosan Green and Wurm Green, also P3.

While not super keen on freehanding more bears, I am thinking I might go back in with some Boreal Green and paint outlines of pine trees on their shield. I had been thinking the Mormont coat of arms was a black bear on plain green, but going into the wiki it is listed as "Their blazon is a black bear over a green wood".

Ah! Thanks for the explanation! The greens work really well, and I wouldn't worry about the bears if you're not super sold on the idea! They're pretty recognisably Mormonts, being visually fur-cloaked Northerners in green with women in their units sets them apart from the other houses as-is!

Got some more work done. Painted up a bunch of northern Men at arms to fill out my units of heavy infantry.

First up, two banner bearers, one from House Locke of Oldcastle, and one Tallhart.

Five knights with shields, two Blackwoods, a Tallhart, a Flint (not the mountain Flints, but the Widow's Watch flints) and a Cerwyn:

And four with heavy weapons. A rare Crannogman fighter, a Hornwood, a Stark and another Cerwyn.

Same mixes of Perry Agincourt, Fireforge Teutons and Claymore french as usual. The Tallhart banner bearer has arms from the Oathmark elf kit.

What do you guys think? I kind of want to make more Crannogmen. The official miniatures were just released, and they have a nice Ranger wibe to them. Thinking of using LotR gondorian rangers to make a unit of Crannogmen archers to kind of match that style. I just like painting forest green and hoods.

Nice to see such a colourful array of Northmen (and a few Riverlanders)!

The LotR rangers would be a good fit for Crannogmen, especially given how most of what we hear about their style of warfare involves either spears (tridents?) or bows!

Fantastic to see such a variety of Houses.

Rangers for Crannogmen sounds like a good idea.

You could also use ribaulds and kerns from Antidiluvian's (formerly Claymore) line

https://antediluvianminiatures.wordpress.com/2018/02/07/shop-historical-range/

I envision Crannogmen as more primitive looking than the GW Gondorian Rangers. But that's me.
