Thanks guys! Kerns is a good idea, but honestly I like the excuse to get to paint the Middle Earth Rangers. I've liked the look of them ever since I played the War of the Ring game a decade ago.

Just a pair of midweek builds here, pre-greenstuff. Dug two generations of GW Empire spearmen bits out of my bits box, heads from the original '99 or '00 Empire Soldiers kit, and arms from the kit that replaced them, somewhere around what.... 2006? Stuck them on a pair of Oathmark bodies just to see how they would look. They may or may not end up in a unit of Spearmen from some of the smaller northern hourses.

Thoughts?

Size wise the parts look good together, but the tassels on the spears dont seem all that northern to me.

Yeah, good point. Maybe that's why I can't make up my mind on these.

Well I mean if you needed them more Northern, worst case, could always mold the tassels up a bit and paint them as rabbit pelts, like Benfred Tallhart's Wild Hares have on their spears, right?

I'm impressed how well the parts fit size-wise though! They're good kitbashes them!

They're looking very promising. Are those Empire plastic kits still available. That "jabbing" stance is very dynamic.

I really like the stances too, maybe the tassles could work for another force, someone fancy and overdressed like the Lannisters or Tyrells?

Alternatively just replace the ends of the spears with Oathmark spears?

Hammer, they might still be, I don't know. Think they are called Freeguild now, not Empire.

Might have a look at modding them on the weekend.

Interesting update - I like the poses, the stance reminds me of the Bolton troops in the Battle of the B@st@rds. Would agree though that the tassles are a bit more softy southerner ...possibly even Dornish.

I would expect  GW Empire troops to be slightly bigger than Frostgrave or Oathmark, right? The mashup looks quitr alright though.

Yeah, I don't think you could put GW bodies in the same unit, but the right bits can work as the Oathmark bodies are fairly stout for their height. Sleeves look loose instead of oversized like they would on a Fireforge body.

It's been a while since I posted to this thread, but that does not mean my Starks have been idle. We've been playing SAGA Age of Magic and the Great Kingdoms faction is great to model any Game of Thrones force. Maybe dull to play only GoT forces, unless you got some Wildlings or White Walkers but a great way to play weeknight games with the models.

Here's a shot from tonight's game:
