How much damage is too much damage?
« on: May 20, 2016, 10:36:30 AM »
I'm sure the topic has raised a few eyebrows, but bear with me. (if this is the wrong sub-forum, please accept my apologies)

I did a fair amount of Warhammer when I was young (not as long ago as compared to other admittedly), not having played Warhammer for ages and not having any further interest to tackle what I'd regard as overpriced miniatures and a not particularly interesting source, I'm interested in getting rid of these figures.

There are however, some problems.

Being young and stupid, the figures haven't been kept in neat boxes (neat boxes cost money which could be put into figures) or anything, but instead have been piled one on top of the other in a shoebox (literally) like you might treat a box of lego bricks. And so they've sat there for sometime. I doubt the quality or the number of broken pikes and swords is to many people's taste (nor the number of repaintings some of them endured, or even the original paintwork itself).

So my question is, given their condition, I'd like to be able to sell them, but given their condition, should I?

There's always a market for anything. It's just the size of the market and your ability to reach it, which will limit your ability to actually sell...

But in the end it all depends on how badly your stuff is damaged and how much is salvageable. A picture would help. However; do not expect to make much out of this sale; (badly?) painted and damaged plastics rarely go for premium amounts...

My advice would be strip all metals. At least there's a cleanish start. Bend carefully anything mangled.

Separate into crap and goodish. Sell good and cleanish models for more; bundle crap and expect little.

Plastics unless strippable and in unbroken condition are almost just recycling.

Judging by the absolute garbage I've seen on ebay and the rather proud prices I wouldn't wager what you could sell your stuff for.  lol

Gentle solvents like Simple Green are very useful for stripping plastics.  If the paint is that bad, just strip them; it doesn't take too much time, just soak for a while, then scrub with an old toothbrush.  Plastic can always be re-glued; if the material is thick enough, then you can always drill tiny holes, and use tiny lengths of wire to add support to the re-gluing.  It shouldn't take too much work to fix them, unless you have to unload them as soon as possible.

As long as you are honest about the condition I don't see why not. Lots of pictures

If you do not want it, sell it, and sell it all... Even broken spears and the like have a use and therefore a market. Do NOT throw anything away.
