Welcome to the new, improved Swashbuckling Adventures board, now grandly retitled 'Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts'.

The change of title is to reflect the growing appetite among LAF members for some clear historical categories, and so this board is designed to cater for the Renaissance era, from the Italian Wars (1500 or so), right through to the advent of the Age of Big Battalions - really from the early C18th onwards.

That said however, this board is still home to Swashbuckling Adventures - posts concerning figures, games, terrain, accessories, rules, books, or other matters, which fit what most people would recognise as the swashbuckling genre of movies and literature. Much of which tends to fall in the first half of the C18th.

So if you're talking early - mid-1700's action of a broadly swashbuckling nature (pirates, smugglers, highwaymen and so on), this is definitely the place. If you're talking big setpiece battles of the Seven Years War or The War of Spanish Succession, then you should probably be posting in The Age of Big Battalions.

The French and Indian War (and indeed the Wars of Clive in India against the French) were sideshows to the main continental Seven Years War in Europe. However, many people (mainly thanks to 'The Last of The Mohicans') see the F&IW as essentially a swashbuckling-style affair, so please continue posting F&IW stuff to this board.

There is currently a vogue for hybrid pirate / fantasy game systems - Freebooters Fate, Cutlass, etc.
On one hand, you could say that as these are loosely pirate themed games, these belong in Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts. On the other hand you could say that anything involving orcs, elves and dwarves belongs squarely in Fantasy Adventures - irrespective of the 'period'.

Either way, please be judicious in how much fantasy stuff you post here in Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts which is mainly intended as a (loosely) 'historical' board. If it's squarely 1500 - early 1700's themed - fair enough. But we do have a Fantasy Adventures board for fantasy-themed content, so please consider if your material would be better placed there.

Thank you  :)
