It's all great but I really love the piebald skin patterns of the trolls- they look amazing (especially the one with half a horse).

who makes the Trolls?

As I look at the photographs I realize they look a bit like they are wearing SS cammo-smock autumn pattern.

After reading 'The Hobbit' there was a strong movement in  "Villa Morannonn" (my home) to make something to reenact within. As we have ample supply of gnarled twigs in the maple hedge which surrounds our garden, so we turned them into the Mirkwood, an imaginary place now deeply rooted in the minds of young Fivers, CanO'Beer (my sons) and their like-minded friends Titania and Oberon (the neighbors' kids).

Udo the Troll spying for something edible in the putrid woodland swamp.

A wicked spider sucking the last juices out of a once mighty stag. (Fivers painted the spider).

Chalky Willy the Troll coming to deal with the issues of a three shadowing his patio in the garden of his neighbour.

Gandalf the Grey running a stash of Longbottom towards the Lonely Mountain.

Love the colours on your fine fellows, but holy cripes that swamp terrain!

It is not a little scene, the piece measures about 40 by 50 cms, embracing a swamp, the Enchanted River, a rush, a path a spiders nest and a ford.

Very epic scene, I've used the hot glue web effect on a project myself and it's very effective.  (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=75865.0 if you want to see a black/white paint job instead of clear)

Well done that man. Unfortunately hot glue filaments do not hold up well to the teeth of time. I will have to restore them using some other method, like fishing line.

Yes, well... But you know how it is: professional endeavours attract no end of vulgar types.

Great stuff!
The miniatures all look great and the Mirkwood looks amazing.
Top drawer.
 :-* :-*

(Now I wish again that I had gotten one of those carts for Gandy to trot about in).

Oh, and ignore the Cumbrian Troll.
He is just jealous that he is only allowed to build with straight edges.

Twig diorama is crazy-good. (And the minis) How much re-arranging did you do to get the final composition? And then how much 'basing' did you do? Quite a bit, obviously! But was it a slog or did it all fall into place? (Figuratively as well as literally)

Some great stuff in this thread!  I'm a big fan of the Lord of the Rings books, movies and game so I always enjoy seeing what people have painted up.

A couple of more shots, showing the complete layout.

I have not decided what to do about a canopy. Available techniques may not improve looks.
