The battle of Grimor V an Epic Armageddon AAR
« on: May 25, 2016, 03:21:50 PM »
So the other night Dr. The Viking and myself dusted off our Epic minis.

With a savage attack that took the Imperium completely by surprise the Ork known as Warboss Batshit had succeeded in capturing Grimor V.
Now 6 months later the orks are still looting the planet and building giant warmachines. But the Ultramarines 3 company is inbound to deliver righteous retribution to the foul xenos.

The orks plundering.

Suddenly the Ultramarine Thunderhawk Hammer of Terra screams out of the skies all guns blazing. And in mid air a squad of assault marines disembark. Before they hit the ground the drop pods of tactical squad primus thunders into the ground.

The Ork speedfreeks are quick to react they gun their engines and advance on their prey.

And open fire.

In another sector of the city the drop pods of scout squad Delta and Devastator squad kappa scream from the sky.

Tactical squad Beta is attacked by orks almost as soon as their pods touch down.

The devastators are hit hard by a Stompa counter attack.

Two mobs of stormboys take to the air to get at the Ultramarines. But both of them take massive casualties as they land in some very nasty ruins. So heavy in fact that it takes the fight right out of the remaining orks. Who run away.

Assault Marines make short work of the deathskull lootas in the ruins.

Terminators teleport in and take out the Stompa mob that was attacking the devastators. But they are themselves then charged by a mob of orks backed up by gunwagons. The brave terminators goes down under the relentless Ork attack.

Tactical Squad Beta fights a desperate battle in the ruins.

The Space Marine Battle Barge Gloria Ultramar moves into orbit and fires a broadside at the battlefield. Taking out two Ork mobs and two gunwagon mobs with it's righteous fire. Leaving the center of the battlefield empty of orks.

But it was not enough. The Ultramarine strike force had taken too heavy casualties including their commander. The surviving battle brothers will have to dig in surrounded by enemies and wait to be airlifted out.

Awesome...nice to see a full game with fully painted miniatures, and the custom explosion templates are excellent.

tear jerking nostalgia, I literally priced up an Epic army based off this report (not using Gw minis lol, vanguard all the way). Thanks from me and no thanks from my wallet/ wife.

Well, this looks really nice!  :-*
And the explosion markers are superb. I hope I can remember them when I want to build something similar in the future, for shamelessly copying them.

Ah well, I made them in 2008 and it seems the internet does not have such a long memory. But here is a close up with some more in it:

It is basically just clump foilage with a few wooden spheres added and dowsed in white glue. The plumes were made with tooth picks covered in chinchilla sand and painted.

Today I would probably start from a different angle and make my own clump foilage in black as the base. It is dead easy I have just discovered. You just take some foam and put it in a blender with water, blend it and squeeze it in some paint. I will make a tutorial later.

Thank you. It is the only one I can find from 2008 when I made them...

I put the paint and some PVA glue in the blender at the same time, it's quicker and easier than adding it later  :D

Ahh but I bet you are not using the blender in the kitchen, and have your wife watching..

I have tried to talk my fellow doctor into getting a foliage blender and start mass producing it for me. I only he had his own he could add the paint straight away.
