One more Imperial Assault thread
« on: May 31, 2016, 10:08:03 AM »
Wow, these things paint fast.
I've only been at it for a month. Some mixed results, but overall a nice tabetop standard.
I thought I'd share them with you.
I make a lot of use of the tutorials by Sorastro. It makes for very relaxed painting, just follow his colour scheme.
He does use GW paints and I mainly use Vallejo so sometimes I have to mix some colours, but it's so nice that someone has done all the thinking and research for you.

These turned out not so great. Contemplating on dunking them in detol. Used vallejo grey wash and it was a bit heavy on pigment, seaping into the detail more then I'd like.

These show a bit dark on the picture. They have a bit more contrast, but I wanted them dark.

wasn't to thrilled about these (post prequel stress disorder), but they were actually fun to paint.

everyone's favourite repurposed drinkdispenser.

Really happy with Vader. I always struggle with black and he's my first attempt at Object source lighting.

and to make the darkside complete:

I started on the heroes.

again with OSL

and some wookiees to finish it.

10 more models to go and I finished the entire wave one release.
Tempted to buy more, but lets get the game on the table a few times first.

Most impressive.
 8) 8) ;)

I particularly like the way the red came out on the Guards.

Cool thread - these guys look pretty jolly good.

The Sorastro tutorials are a pretty god starting point when considering painting these miniatures.

Like I said yesterday; great stuff, bud... 8)

But having seen them in the flesh/plastic, I must say that these pictures hardly do them justice!

And some time soon, I'm going to have to actually use them too, when I play my first game of IA... ;)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

So, since so many of these threads are showing up - has anyone actually tried the vague miniatures rules with the game?  I understood you could play a lite wargame with them outside of the board game itself.  Has anyone bothered with them?

Yeah, it really shows every little flaw. Gotta say lighting outside was les then ideal for pics, but it's not gonna get better for a while  :?

I really bought it for the campaign mode. It's great fun so far.
The skirmish I haven't tried yet, but I'm sure to do at some point.
I do know plenty of players like it and some even prefer it over the campaign.

It's not really a wargame as we know it tough. Still very much a boardgame. Just a little more freedom in list building.

that's not what I meant to say: I actually meant that the low lighting conditions obscure your pictures and do not show the minis for all they're worth...  ;)
