Using old school figures for SF games
« on: June 05, 2016, 12:54:37 AM »
While I am building some forces with new figures (Rebel Minis, Khurasan,  Clearhorizon, the GDF KS figures are planned,) I still have most of my human/humanoid forces from "The Day" (assorted Stan Johansen FGU aliens, Galactic Grenadiers -both sizes- plus semi-old GZG [6/15/25mm] and raiding forces of other 1970s/1980s aliens.)

Does anyone else play with their 1970s/1980s SF figures still?

Dunno about sci-fi groppo; I've been known to fly my old Minifig spaceships on occasion.

I've got some 15mm GG's, but they've not seen paint yet. Soon as they do, I assume they'll get shot up like everybody else.

I acquired them more recently (6 years ago), but my Denizen Ventaurans (Mid 80's I think..) get out at about once a year. Usually as the OpFor in my 28mm Mech Attack games and once in a while in other games.  They've done Tomorrow's War, ITEN and at least one other.

Great figs. The style is 80's, but the sculpting definitely holds up today.

Yes. I started gaming then and still have all my ral partha, grenadier, etc. They are all painted and still look good. I also still play some of the old rule sets. Considering I started with rules gleaned from Featherstones books or wrote my own I enjoyed the simplicity of the early days.  :-*

I mostly use miniatures for role playing games. This means I need all kinds of different character to play, so the diversity of the old school minis is a life saver. I still use my Leading Edge Colonial Marines and Aliens as well as my Grenadier Star Wars minis for all kinds of games. I mix in old Ral Partha modern/spy figures and Rafm Cthulhu stuff with Harlequin Doctor Who and Babylon 5 figures whenever I need civilians. The best thing about all these lines is they match scale-wise. At least they do when they're painted. And they look pretty cool all together.

I still play with a lot of my old stuff. I have a few Minifigs, a bunch of old Garrison, Raul Partha (15&25), Heritage, 15mm Martian Metals, and a bunch of other old stuff. Oh yah, forgot about a bunch of old Grenadier, Asguard, & Archive.

the old 25mm sci-fi and fantasy are some of my favourite minis - I'm lining up my Grenadier Star Wars collection for a repaint in the coming months  :D

I've been collecting the old Citadel Spacefarers range, amongst others, over the last year or so. I absolutely love the old school aesthetic!  :-* I just need to organise myself better to find the time to paint them!  ::)

And looking forward to Rogue Stars coming out later this year to game with them.

*facepalm* I'd completely forgotten my old 15mm Trav since deciding to go the just-as-true scale; I think both Martian Metals and GW, as there's some shocking variation of quality.

To the basement!
