I have many packs of Hat 20mm/ 1/72 plastic WW2 and Napoleonic figs. Shots of these can be found on the excellent www.plasticsoldierreview.co.uk. Generally I think the best 1/72 plastics  are better sculpted in terms of human proportions and weapons than many 28mm figs.

Hat's sculpting can vary from the excellent to the frustratingly poor although thankfully it's more the former than the latter. Whats good for 20mm may not be quite good enough in 28mm. The shot of the masters of the figs your refer to look ok, as good as some metal manufacturers...but I dont think Perry plastics need worry too much. That being said it's a new period and variety is the spice of life.

Lets see what the finished product looks like and sells for.

Some of those Almoravids look quite handy, if the price is right it looks like Barbary Corsairs forces might get a boost here....or Corsairs of Umbar on a budget ?

Wonder if they'll do any WWI ?

Try mailing them - I've had a lot of conversations with the guy who runs their website (I even translated some box text into Danish for them some years ago).

They are always ready to listen to the voices of the masses  ;)

if they are cheap enough, I might be tempted to get a few boxes as conversion fodder.

"Try mailing them"

Do you have an email address for them? I can't find one of the site referred to.  I'd like to suggest they have one/some/many black phsiogs in their muslim foot to represent the many black soldiers that were in the muslim armies of that area.

Looking forward to these figures.  My old Irregular Mamluk army has lacked foot for years and these could provide a cheap source for them.

Still, from the look of the (rough) masters and the anatomy, they're not using sculptors who are familiar with 28mm.

Honestly? I'm not convinced. These are samples shown on the HäT-HP:

I notice that Caliver Books are already accepting orders, so I look forward to seeing these soon.

Fair enough, not to everyone's taste, but the price I've heard works out at less than half the price of comparable metal figures (possibly a third of the price), so I might hazard a single box to use for skirmish gaming - I don't do any medieval gaming, and certainly not Reconquista, so it's not something I would approach in metal, but this way I might. And if I did, I'd probably go on to add a couple (or three) of metal "character" figures to use as leaders/officers. If the metals look a lot better than the plastic rabble, then all the better : it's easier to see that they are the leaders that way.

But the Moors are more promising - they might convert for colonial use.

I think the best use for these will be conversion fodder. Some headswaps with metal heads (e.g. West wind saxon head packs) should go a long way to improve them.

I'm just going to come out and say it.  They look pretty crappy for 28mm models, especially by the standard that is accepted these days.

Good for you.
Being kind should have some reasonable limits.  ;)

Strangely the masters of the muslim figures look a lot better - or am I kidding myself?  Or do masters always look better?
