Plynkes !!! WHY!!!
That's why.
(I did say "It's not brilliant")
Us wargamer types can be a bit precious about this kind of thing, especially when it concerns "our" legends. The trailers for "King Arthur" put me off it to a degree that I still have not seen it. Likewise "Beowulf." That one I will probably watch one day, but at the moment his East End Cockney stylings (
"Pass the jellied eels me old China, I've come to kill your MONSTA!!!") are keeping me away.
On the other hand the
Nibelungenlied is something I am much less familiar with, I only know it from a child's story book (which probably mangled it too). The film had Max von Sydow+Dragon+Sexy Warrior-Terminator Queen = diverting fun for a while.
I enjoyed it as a bit of a fantasy romp, and it had for me very much a fairy tale feel. If I were a German I should probably have been jumping up and down in rage at what they had done to
my legends, like I always do with King Arthur films (except "Excalibur", I still really dig that, mostly).
But I'm not a German, so I didn't.
