I LOVE this thread! Your painting is just excellent and the idea behind the collection is brilliant! Where is the Jade Prince model from...?

Thanks very much Timotl. The jade prince is from John Jenkins designs, long OOP now.

Hello everyone. Very nice work on your Lo Pan army Mr. Saturday. Not sure you all of you had a chance to see the updates to my Terracotta Army but feel free to check them out on my website www.watchfulistudio.com and go to the projects page.

They are definitely a different feel and a more 'low' fantasy approach to the army but a full army range will be coming out hopefully in the 1st quarter or next year.

To all my European fans, I was seriously considering a plan that involves my attendance at Salute or another European show. Would that be a welcome addition or should I find another way to make my miniatures available in Europe? I have been trying to find a partner but to no avail at the moment.

Hope you enjoy the progress of the Terracotta army and there are some more monsters currently in the works so stay tuned.  Happy Holidays and if anyone has an interest I am having a holiday sale starting Friday, November 25 and ending Wednesday, November 30. I am offering a 20% discount on all items in the store. Just use the coupon code ChineseAdventure at checkout. :)

Joe

Thanks Joe. I've been watching the updates to your range with great interest. I'm very keen to pick up your wonderful Xing Tian when it's released. Are the temple dogs with riders available yet? I've only seen the 'living' versions on your website.

A European distributor would be wonderful. Shipping can be heavy coming from the States. I'm sure you'd be very welcome indeed at one of the larger European shows.

What a wonderful project, Mr S

A great idea to use the terracotta chaps as a fantasy army.
The colour combinations are wonderful, especially the greens on Liu Sheng.
Wonderful brushwork all round.
Love it!

Mr. Saturday - Thanks and I appreciate the interest and I completely understand about the shipping costs. I wish I was large enough to eat some of the shipping costs to allow customers to get the goodies. :)

Xing Tian should be released by the end of the year along with the War Drum platform. The Terracotta Palace Guard along with the rest of the range should start to become available early in 2017.

I will continue to look for a European distributor because as a customer myself I know how discouraging it can be when you want to buy something and its too cost prohibitive to order it.

Thanks, Joe

That's great to hear on the Xing Tian, war drum and palace guard.

The Yeren always intrigued me in the movie. No explanation is ever offered as to why this hairy niutball is wandering around LoPan's hideout, he just kind of shows up and does his thing. He seems to be in thrall to LoPan though, so it makes sense to add him to the retinue.

The Yeren, or Chinese wild man, is a kind of demon/orangutan/gorilla/hobo combo. He's a curious wee fella with his sloth-like claws and too-wide mouth, and he adds some much needed colour to the army. I kept the colours pretty close to the movie character, though it took me a couple of attempts before I was happy with the face.

That then gives me two of LoPan's retinue done with four more to go. Next up will be a triumvirate of demons, Ching Dai's enforcers.

Beautiful brushwork.
Such a wonderful composition with the base contrasting superbly with the beastie himself.

This is such a great project to follow.
 :)

Really looking forward to the rest of the retinue.

Thanks very much Mason, kind words indeed.

I need to do some research on colours for the demons, I want them to be quite vibrant. Before that though, I have a seasonal mini to paint up!

Hi,
just came to this thread and have to confess: I have to steal the idea of building a terracotta army like this!

This will be my scenario for 2018 games fair in my home town.

I will gladly point out where I got the inspiration from, though!

Cheers
