Ambush the Caravan UPDATED with more pics
« on: January 21, 2009, 10:06:00 PM »
On Saturday 01.10 Duregar and I played a couple of LotR Battle Companies games.

The first one as a follow up to the 'Treasure Hunt' depicted earlier.

The Dol Amroth company has procured a camel to transport home the spoils of war - but in the vicinity of an oasis, they enconter the infamous Sheikh Ahriman and his assassins.

The board - the cork tile is NOT part of the terrain, but meant for banging the dice cup on....

The merry men of Dol Amroth:

Ahriman's Assassins:

The two forces have spotted each other - the Gondorians assume battle formation, while the desert raiders spread out.

A fierce hail of arrows rain down on the knight and his trusty companions, but they all bounce off heavy armour:

More to come....

As the antagonists close in, a foreboding shape looms over the horizon - will there be intervention by the Maiar (my eldest daughter, Anna, wanted a piece of the action)?

The Haradrim lose volley after volley into the approaching Gondorians, and finally draw some blood.

In the meantime, a small detachment engages the sole rider trying sneak in from behind (note to self: ALWAYS charge with cavalry if you get the chance)...

A fierce fight breaks out - and my daughter isn't as daft as she may look on this pic  ;)

After dispatching the rider, the two Men-at-Arms turn their ruler - er - attention on the main action.

The fighting got so intense that it seemed to blur out the action... ::)

To be continued.....

Thanks!  :)

It's a home-brewn scenario, that I'm going to upload very soon (I shall also upload the revised 'Treasure Hunt' which is the prelude to this.

Will post the rest of this fight tonight.

Nice little battle, good figures and simple lay out , all good.

Is your daughter getting in to wargaming or does she , like mine , admire your painting skills.

Thanks. I think she may, eventually. She's a bit too young to grasp the concept of rules, just yet, but she is VERY interested.

She already painted some 45 mm toy knights, and though she did not paint a smooth layer, I was really impressed when she painted the eyes on a couple of horses  :D

Thank you. I know I don't come anywhere near some of the stars in here, but we DO enjoy these little fights - and I strive to get every new piece of terrain into use ASAP - the new pieces this time were the small cd-based dunes  :)

The fight rages on, and the remote Men-at-Arms close in... still in a blur  >:( - must remember to get my tripod out!

The valiant knight desperately tries to break through:

The knight almost succeeds in creating a corridor for the Camel and its driver....

...but what happens??? Oh, no! The camel driver is wounded, and the camel runs away!!  :o

One of the desert sons starts chasing the camel....

...but the camel decides to leave the board!!!

As none of the participants could fulfil their victory conditions, the game ended as a draw.

We must continue this story by chasing down the camel with the treasure!!!

Very nice board!

Just a quick question but how did you create the excellent sand effect?

Cheers

The board was covered in white glue, then covered with a heavy layer of the kind of sand you lay garden tiles(?) on.

After drying about 24 hours, the excess sand was removed, and the board was sealed by applying a generous amount of thinned down white glue.

Btw, I use water-resistant white glue, made for exterior use.

I used Windsor & Newton Galeria acrylics:

Base coat: Raw Umber
Heavy drybrush in two crossing directions: Naples Yellow
Light drybrush in two crossing directions (and some circles to break up any lines): Buff Titatnium

I used some - almost corresponding - GW paints for some of the terrain pieces....
