(AP 2016) Darkest Africa Azande

It's high time I make my official thread for the 2016 Army Painter challenge. I'm going to work on my long neglected Darkest Africa Azande from Wargames Foundry.



Looks like I need to paint about seventy figures this time, four ten man units of Azande spearmen and two ten man units of 'regular' rifles plus a variety of leaders. I already have ten or so spearmen and some riflemen in traditional dress painted, from a few years ago.

I also have sixty+ pygmies and if I can get to it my hope is to finish the project with 'Pygmy Month' and knock the lil' guys out in thirty days.

I've played The Sword and the Flame 'Africa Variant' the most, with In the Heart of Africa a close second. I'm eagerly awaiting CONGO, so I hope it's good

Yes I,m fond of Chris Peers Heart of Africa rules and I see there's a new version just out , I wonder do they differ much from the first one. Looking forward to your future posts.

With CONGO on the horizon I too have some Darkest Africa in the paint queue. Will watch your progress with much interest.

I have my first unit painted and photographed. I started with the Azande Riflemen because they're kind of boring and I like to get the plain looking guys out of the way first

Having acquired some rifles and vaguely Egyptian style uniforms, these soldiers are practicing under the watchful eye of a drillmaster.





Testor's Dullcote spray is really underperforming lately, I'm still getting a satin finish even after buying a new can.
