Good looking start to a true behemoth.

I wish I had the space for such a 'ship', I'd have to move my gaming to the backyard!

I thought you Aussies had nothing but space!  Seriously though, the final one should be just over 6ft (or with only one mid-section around 4.5).  It's not intended to be part of the gaming area, but THEE gaming area.

Sounds like what we call 'hardboard' in the UK. Seriously though its gonna weigh a lot by the time you clad it completely. I think you'll find magnets won't grip the sections together under the combined weight.
You'd be much better going for glue soaked fabric or heavy paper/thin card...

I think over here it's called "Greyboard" available from some (but not all) art shops or stationers.
The most reliable stockists I've found are the Skipton Art Shop (usually have a good selection of brushes there too) or Lancaster Art Shop.
Unlike hardboard and mountboard it doesn't have a 'polished' surface.
You can get thinner versions of it on the backs of old notepads.

Love this project, the slightly mad, grandiose ones are inspirational.

The nose section has been completed, lock stock and barrel.  It's wonderful to see it all fit tightly and once all the points are glued it's rock solid.

The mid section and tail are very close to having the final fitting as well.  Once I have each section all set structurally, I'll start making some interior constructs.  Rooms, a storage section, something interesting for the tail...should be fun.

That's a beautiful build... Just out of interest where are you going to put the controls?

It will be one of the last things I tackle.  I'm thinking of a simple bridge, similar to a star trek style, up front with enough room for The Villain™ to walk around in front of the window.

Thanks, that was a suggestion by a friend, for both simplicity of build and to give it a more pulp style feel.

Nice bit of Star Wars fluff/trivia :D - I thought it was just the retro look of old bomber canopies like the one shown
But it makes sense and ties in with the visual displays elsewhere on the fillums

Kids went for a bike ride today and I had a bit of a play with the cabins and dining area...

The main layout is set and everything fits.  Now to make the doors a bit taller and thinner, add a removable roof for the rooms, and on the windows.  Should be a bit of fun designing the windows, lots of different material thicknesses involved...

Here is the WIP piece and finished piece lined up with magnates.  Due to weight concerns, the upper supports between the pieces will be wingnuts and screws, mighty strong...
