US Marines
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:43:07 PM »
The first figures from my new US marines force for Boxer Rising and VSF games:

Marines (Redoubt Boxer Rising range)

Marines (Redoubt with Paroom Station officer & sergeant)

Colt machinegun (Redoubt with Tiger Miniatures ammunition carrier)

Driggs-Schroeder 1pdr gun on landing carriage (Tiger Miniatures)

The full force so far:

Officers - left to right: Tiger, Redoubt, Paroom Station

Marines - left to right: Tiger, Redoubt, Paroom Station

Next on the painting table are more riflemen. Then I need to think about some steamtech.

Well...

A bit of bad form appearing on the field of battle in campaign dress... but they are Americans...  :)

Nice job... they look quite sporting!

Very nice paintjob.
Your marines are just marvellous! (and  splendid colours I may add).

Very inspirational. [I must resist to add a new army in my plans]

Yeehaw!

Theya re vry nice Dave. I think the various different ranges all blend together really well.

Looking forward to seeing them in the flesh.

Here here! I'm especially impressed with the quality of the Paroom station figures.

Thats a nice collection, and very nicely painted.  :)

The only figure I don't like is the Tiger officer, he just looks a bit, um, Trumpton, if you know what I mean. I think its the little head and big hands.

That's exactly it, the fire brigade. Give him a brass hat and he'd be perfect.  lol

Now you've done it, I am humming the theme tune in my head constantly and I am remembering various episodes from my childhood now.  :D So its off to Youtube to see what I can find.

Interesting you should bring up the subject of Trumpton as my new British character for the Venus campaign is called Lord Belborough, named after the very same chap who lived in Chigley and owned a steam train.... ;)

I agree with the general thoughts on the Tiger figures -the sculpts are in some cases poorly proportioned and cruder than the other manufacturers. However, they do fill in some items missing from the other ranges and if you only have a few 'specialists' they don't look out of place alongside the other figures.

So far I have a lot of Tiger miniatures, some german colonials and lots of balkan wars figures.
I must comment that the sculpting is improving on any newer figure they are releasing. Their balkan wars ranges are getting everyday better.
See my earlier post with my  first Balkan/WW1/BoB  Greeks

They put lots of efforts to have accurate figures and do lots of research.

Overall their ranges are good having little gems among their figures and also fill a lots of gaps .

Just now I received my WI256 [February 2009] issue and there is an article by Pete Holland about the battle of Sarantaporo [1st Balkan war]. See the illustrations, they are very nice.

Hmm .... in that case I have no option but to name him Captain Snort (of Pippin Fort) lol
