Punkapocalyptic stuff
« on: May 09, 2016, 10:33:39 AM »
Some time ago I got into the Punkapocalyptic crowdfunding and managed to get a couple of bands, 'Gangers' and 'Junkers'.

Gangers have precisely that Mad Max vibe that gives the game its name. I maybe painted them too dark and dull :(, and in fact I had to redo some work.

It's more or less the same tone for the rest of the band. I tried to avoid the Green Arrow reference here :P

Not being myself a fan of the God of War videogames, I tried this totally different approach:

Here's the band:

After having them finished, I've done some additional work. For example I repainted this guy's armour light grey:

And added some rubble and junk to everyone's bases, as they looked desperately plain.

On the other side, Junkers have that quite steampunk look that makes them appealing in their own way.

(I could/should have painted that last one in more 'proper' colours, but the temptation was too obvious :D)

Though I'm not particularly satisfied with the final results, I think they work nice enough for the moment. I may repaint some stuff (as I've already done with the guy above, for example), but for now that's it.

Now I need to give the game a try! The rules and stuff are available for download on the Punkapocalyptic web, so let's see when I can have a game and tell you about my thoughts on it :)

Awesome looking gangs!

Just love the cleverness you used to give them an eclectic, yet cohesive look.

Well done.

Very nice! I especially like the Ganger with the Banner, the leaping Ganger and the Mario Junker.

I finally tested the rules. The game is sweet, very skirmish oriented with a high degree of freedom to do whatever you fancy.
It works on an alternate activation basis, which is nice and adds motion to the setting.

This has been my first move into PA ambientation. Coming from a world of ubersoldiers, power armours and lasguns, it's been quite shocking fighting with knives and arrows, specially seeing how deadly they are when you only wear some leather jacket ;D

It all works quite swiftly, so the turns come and go and the action never stops.

One of the examples of freedom of action: my pal decided to grab a shipping crate with the crane...

...and smash it on my Brute! Ouch!

Not specifically covered by the rulebook, but definitely in the spirit of it, so we found it easy to resolve the situation :D

So, on the whole, a nice and easy going game. It may lack a campaign system, XP management and so, but it's really great for a quick skirmish. Here you can find it all at the blog, with much more explanation about the game (and many more pics, of course!):

Punkap/Hasslefree/Punkap/Hasslefree, etc. :)

The crane moment was so fun! :D From now on I can only think in scenery as a weapon of war ;D

There are a couple of not-Furiosas out there, but I picked this one from the Punkap guys. Sweet sculpt, tons of charm.

I'm afraid I screwed it all trying to paint the grease over the face :-[

Anyway. I found this 1:43 truck from a collectible series. I was thinking of leaving it that way for zombie games, but something is urging me to desecrate it a little bit and going towards something more wasteland-extreme ;)

Hmmm, still to be decided...
