Anyone sell skulls and arrows?
« on: September 21, 2016, 08:03:47 AM »
Encouraged by the helpful responses to the questions on another thread about 28mm muskets, I thought I would ask whether anyone knows a source of human skulls and arrows in the same scale.

Cardboard counters are one of my pet hates on the wargames table - they are great to get you going with the game, but spoil the look IMHO and I try to replace them with something that blends in better as soon as I can.  So, a few arrows stuck into a textured base could do for a -1 shooting modifier.  Great theory, but my google-fu has come up short and I haven't managed to find either anyone selling either skulls or arrows.  Does anyone sell them or am I barking up the wrong acacia tree?

For skulls, you can take a look on ral partha europe store. They are selling packs of 12 (metal) skulls. Not sur if they are more 25 or 28mm scale (and don't know if it makes a big diference).

You can also find some wargames factory skeletons boxset, maybe ?

For arrows, I think you will have to scratch build them ;)

Scratch building arrows should be really easy. Just stick a couple of pieces of wire into the base then a little of glue and paper scrap for fletching.

Thanks to all who replied; 4x bags of skulls ordered from Ral Partha  lol

I will have a go at making arrows out of wire, and thanks to those who gave the tip.  Surprised there aren't any available commercially, so cut hands and gluey fingers for me!

The Perry Plastic Wars of the Roses Bill and Bow set comes with lots of clumps of arrows stuck into the ground.

I bought lots of plastic arrows on ebay, think they were Games Workshop

If there's one thing for which Games Workshop can be counted on, it is skulls, which you can scarcely miss, even on their terrain boards. Forge World used to make a set of slightly larger than 28mm resin skulls, though I don't know if it's still available.

Irregular Miniatures sell packs in their Pirate range, which are actually made by Eureka. There's also a pile of skulls, and a circular skull and crossbones motif, though these may be a little unrealistic for your purposes.

One is of course only too delighted to be of service, in however modest a fashion.

I've just searched on eBay and found further possibilities, which I may well pursue myself. A seller called greenstuffworld sells packs of 100 resin skulls for £8.95, while another seller has sprues of metal ones which he sculpted himself. There may well be more, but if you need variety, it's certainly available.
