(Commercial)28mm metal Samnite Cavalry-Aventine
« on: September 25, 2016, 12:03:33 PM »
We have completed the Samnite Cavalry, 4 packs of 3 and a 12 figure unit deal. All figures have separate heads some are 2 piece bodies. They come with the new Hoplon shield AVS25, spears and some new horses. They have been designed from the illustrations available in various books and represent most of the Southern Italian states in the 3rd Century BC. Mixed armours and helmets provide a nice variety in the units, we see them as allies of Rome as well as enemies and I for one will be using a unit or 2 in my allied legions.

Cheers

Beautiful figures :)

I have to ask... any update on the Byzantines?

Still some pieces to do before we can start the Byzantines. Thureophoroi, seleucid cavalry and to replace the elephant moulds. Rest assured I want them badly so we will push to get started as soon as possible.

Keith/Adam

Excellent figures (as usual).  Having separate heads is a good idea as those feathers can be fragile.   Was holding off ordering some bits and pieces until these were released - now have no excuse.

Given your existing thureophoroi was wondering about the reference above, keen to see the Seleucid cavalry and my wallet is most concerned about replacement elephant moulds!

The original Thureophoroi moulds were shot so we pulled them from the shop. We will redo the figures using the later dollies and make new heads, they will also get armour for Thorakitai. The elephants are hard on the moulds and every now and then we need to replace them, I hope to convince Adam to do a bit of redesign on them to make them howdah less with mods on the existing howdah so they can go on as well, one body two uses if possible that way we have the towerless beats with astride crews.

The heads have been cast in pewter so the feathers are a bit more robust, they were also designed the be stronger at the joint with the helmet, some have wings at their base.

Cheers

Thanks Keith - I did like the original thureophoroi, still have 24 to finish!    Be good to have the option for crew astride the elephants, have just finished 2 of the older Essex ones for an early Successor game in November but more for the herd is a good scenario.

Cheers

Excited about the Samnites; very excited about the prospect of howdah-less nellies.

Incredible figures, simply fantastic! I am so impressed and happy with the Huns I purchased from you.

I wrote in another post that if I were to do a Sassinid army, it would be Avetine figures but at 50, I don't have enough time left on this earth to paint them as the sculpts demand. They are that good and detailed.

It looks like the Samnites continue the high quality and detail. I'm drooling with awe but, after my Late Roman project that I've been collecting for the last year, my wallet (and my wife, if I want to keep her) demand that any future purchases of large armies remain at 15 and 6mm.
You go to war with the figures you have, not the figures you wish you had!

Incredible sculpting , as always , Keith.  Look forward to seeing them painted by Adam. Hope to catch you at the club, Colin.
