Malifaux Swampfiends Mire Golem, Silurids, Gupps, Spawn Mother
« on: September 25, 2016, 09:09:34 PM »
Latest Malifaux painting project has been a bit of a swampfiend run concentrating on their fishman stuff, which could also work for generic fantasy fishfolk or Mythos Deep Ones.

There's the ogre-sized Spawn Mother on her 50mm base, along with some custom sculpted egg markers for her summoning shenanigans.

And three different sculpts of the standard (male) Silurids, plus the immature (and rather cartoony) Gupp Swarm models.

They're quite a bit smaller than Momma, mounted on 30mm and (in groups of three gupps) 40mm bases respectively.

They're fairly nice sculpts and easier to assemble than most Wyrd models, although I do wish the Gupps (which are very good in game terms, with or without Momma) were more menacing-piranha than cutesy.

Also an big hefty mire golem/shambling mound critter, with the bizarre name of Bad Juju.

Nice work on these pieces.I think i like the older Silurids better.

The young one's do look to be way too cute. That maybe most peoples last thought after they attack ;).

Thanks, I was pretty happy with the way they came out.

The adult (male) silurids are my favorites of the lot, those dynamic poses are very cool and a good reminder that they all have the Leap action.  By comparison the gupps are rather static (as well as annoying cartoony) which seems like a missed opportunity to me.  They do look a lot like the old metals, but I'd like them a lot more if they'd gone for a lean-and-hungry look with more active poses.  The silly things do have Leap as well, and the background fluff makes it sound like they should look like a ravenous pack of maneaters.  The momma is a nicely detailed sculpt and fairly dynamic, but I wish they'd either put the scale detailing on everything or left them with the smoother frog skin look for consistency.

I dunno, they seem pretty fishy to me.... ;D ;D

Really nicely done.  Love that Spawn Mother the most.

Really nice work  :-* The Spawn mother is also my favorite but Bad Juju is also pretty great.

I'll give them this, they do all work frighteningly well together in game terms.  The synergies between the different generations of fish are quite strong, and the mire golem has a really obnoxious come-back-from-the-dead trick that combos really well with the cheap (or free, when Momma is summoning them) gupp swarms.  And they work well with multiple masters, not just Zoraida.  She can pull in the other swampfiend stuff best, which mostly means bayou gators and maybe MacTavish, but they're not a mandatory include by any means.  Only so many soulstones to spend after all, and the golem and Momma eat up a lot when used together.

The fish are all beasts as well, which makes me wonder if a Marcus "grow" crew that concentrates on doing Alpha on Momma repeatedly to maximize egg output could work.  Probably not game winning, but a neat "dark horse" theme force.

Lovely work on these models - they look very gribbly!

I reckon they'd make good Cthulhu or Pulp figures too. :)

Excellent paint jobs and together they make a great 'little' force.

My favourite has to be Mother though I do not think I dare buy her as I would have nightmares over those teeth!

I'm pleased to see that one of The Other Side factions is apparently composed of more aquatic beasties invading Earth from Malifaux, including some very large cousins of the Silurids.  No such thing as too many fishman minis on the market.

Sorry, fishperson.  Must be inclusive, lest I be fed to the gupps.
