OLDHAMMER: Undead Warbands (++ Talisma Necromancer)
« on: September 26, 2016, 11:22:09 PM »
After months dedicated to painting Rogue Trader miniatures, it's time to do a break and begin to paint again some Oldhammer fantasy miniatures.
Here a Liche I painted today. It will be the leader for my mordheim "Restless" warband and maybe for a Frostgrave warband too.
I painted it using the paint scheme of the Dread King from Warhammer Quest.

Very cool. This is one of the first GW minis I got I think. Came in a pack with a wight, a necromancer and a vampire. All pretty cheaply I recall. You've done an ace job on getting it to look like the picture as well. Can't wait to see more.

I always thought 'Red and Green should Never be Seen'  ;)

Great work using primary resources for your colour scheme  :)

Well done! At the same time I want to compliment you on the work you have done on other old school models, too - they have been a source of inspiration for my own work. Would you have any tips on how to get the nice and smoothly blended colours, like you accomplished on this model's red robe?

I try to paint these oldhammer miniatures with an old school style, then bright colours. I often use, as ispiration for the paint schemes, some old eavy metal galleries.
The red robe was painted: white primer, then a citadelKhorne red base, wash of citadel devlan mud, again the Khorne red, some higlights of Khorne red mixed with mephiston red, then mephiston red, some highlights of mephiston red mixed with jokaero orange, pure jokaero orange an a final higlight of jokaero orange mixed with averland sunset... for finish some little washes of baal red where needed...

I've painted two Tomb Guards for my Liche.
I've included an overview of the new painted miniatures with the undead miniaturs I yet painted many months ago.
I should paint two skeletons and a Undead Champion (Krell) too.

Great painting! Don't suppose you'd like to sell/trade that zombie on the far left? He has eluded me for years! 😭😉

Thanks :) I could trade the zombie only for these miniatures I'm looking:
Citadel C02 Wizard

or
Female Commissar

if not available send me a PM with your trade list, maybe there is something I could need.

Two armored skeletons join my Liche Warband.
...and an overview of the whole warband. Theorically it could be yet ready for fight.

The Champion for my Undead warband.
I'm considering to paint a whole undead warband with middlehammer miniatures.
The other oldhammer undead I've yet painted are nice, but have not the same style.

That green is magnificent!  :-*

Never really been much of a fan of the "middlehammer" figures as you call them but those Tomb Guard are really nice.

I usually like oldhammer miniatures (about 1985-1992), but I grew up with middlehammer miniatures (about 1993-1998).
I remember a trip in Oxford (I'm from Italy), where I bought some 4th edition reikguards, wraiths and dark elf black guards (still have them and repainted) in the GW store.
Ironically, I never played to WARHAMMER, just bought some miniatures for use with Role playing games. I just beginned to play with citadel miniatures in 2001, with Warhammer 40.000.
I will use these miniatures for a Mordheim warband (Restless Dead from the Border Burning Town not officiale supplement) and maybe for a Frostgrave warband too.
