Cheers mate.  Saw the rerelease of the Venator, won't be buying anymore though, as I already have a number of them to build....I seem to have been buying them in my sleep recently   :?

My little project for the Build Something Contest (the Scariff Shield Gate from Rogue One) is approaching completion, so I'm beginning to think about the next stage of my wider Star Wars fleet project.

I've got a number of the Revell Venators to build, but rather than just churn out a bunch of identical models, I fancy having a couple of conversions....

My plan is to open up the hangar bay doors on at least one, and I also want to produce a command ship.

Additionally, I've just taken pity on a battered old MPC star destroyer kit - it was poorly finished, and looking a bit sorry for itself, so I'm toying with the idea of converting it into another Victory-class - at 15" long it's ideal (the brand new Revell click together kits are a little long for this, plus the depth of the trench on the new models are too narrow).

Will see how much work it needs when it arrives, sometime next month.

Had a bit more time than I thought today, so made some more progress...

First up, I built a second "standard" model Venator, and undercoated it.

Next, I partially built another one....and then cut it in half.

I've loosely boxed the gap with foamboard...I might rip this out and start again....and then clad the sides with a couple of spare hangar bays.  Sitting on top of the white section is a clear resin piece (not the best photo) which is a spare left over from the Acclamator model - it's not glued down, but I'm thinking it could serve as an extra Fleet Command Bridge .... there is no reason why this should be necessary, other than I think it will look cool.

More on the Scariff Shield Gate build (which is in scale with the rest of my project) here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=96712.0

Will progress more with the Venators, once the shield gate is finished.

Love the updates in this thread (which I firmly blame for me buying Star Wars Armada now)

Started on a (fourth) Venator....have cut the hangar bay doors off, and then reattached them in the open position, will need a bit of tidying up. Have boxed out the hangar section as well, not planning on building a full working hangar, but may give the impression of one.

Fixed that for you Akula!

Some new arrivals courtesy of Shapeways - these are from Mel Miniatures, that produces Armada sized ships.  Have been scouring through their line, and the following are broadly in scale with my 1/2256 project (give or take a max of c10% by my reckoning).

Have put alongside an Anigrand Blockade Runner for scale purposes

Some merchant vessels and especially for Damas....a Hammerhead Corvette....no lights though

 ;)

The old 1/4222 scale Star Destroyer kit has arrived in the post - at only 15" long it's too small to be used as an Imperial class SD, but by a stroke of luck it's ideal to convert into a Victory class Star Destroyer in 1/2256 - shown here alongside my existing Victory class.

It needs some real TLC....filling, stripping down and a bit of conversion work, but the basic shape is perfect.  Apart from fitting the gun wings, it needs the hangar bay boxing in, and a bit of work turning it from 3 engines, into 2.

I might pickup one of the new Revell ISD, which I believe is slightly larger....near 16" - it's much better detailed, and even has lighting, but it looks like the trench is v.narrow - again, another possible conversion project.

Thanks mate - I'd love to post a group shot with the Shield Gate, but obviously can't until the Build Something Contest is over

Now I'm out of the Build Something Contest, at least I can add the shield gate to my Star Wars thread - it's over 80cm across from pylon to pylon.

More photos of how I built it, can be found on the following thread:
