AKULA's Star Wars Fleet Battles - Scariff shield gate added
« on: October 05, 2016, 09:03:22 PM »
I haven't really had much time to do anything hobby-related so far this year, but I wanted to get back in the groove, hence this new thread.

I've wanted to build a fleet of Star Wars ships for some time now, and was really impressed with the scratch built 1/1000th ships on here, but they are a little too large scale for what I had in mind - I'd like to build a fleet of capital ships, and so I've opted for the slightly smaller 1/2256 scale.

This might seem like an odd scale, but it is fast becoming a fertile source of garage kits - it is also the scale of the Revell Venator kit (now unfortunately OOP but still available on fleabay for increasingly silly prices).

I've added in for scale purposes a Falcon, blockade runner and transport vessel (all 3 were made by Anigram, once upon a time)- fighters are tiny, but there are people on shapeways that make them.

My little project will be set just after the Battle of Endor, in some backwater system - the local Imperial Governor will have access to a real mix of old and "current" vessels. For example, I see no reason why the Empire wouldn't still have aging Venators kicking around somewhere (think how many modern navies have ships that are 25 years old, or more), and I'm sure some will have fallen into the hands of the rebels....

Odyssey Slipways have also been a good source of smaller craft - they made the light republic cruiser, and the tiny LAAT in this photo - I've also added an x-wing and tie interceptor, along with the Anigram vessels.

That's everything for now - will add more as I go.

 :)

I'll admit I'm a bit blown away by how cool those all look in correct scale together!

Tonight's offering is a Quasar Fire class bulk carrier - a tidy little kit cast up by JPG Productions, just needed a couple of tiny bits of filling.

And the obligatory group shot....

Cheers Chris - I think your list will need a bit of updating, I have been scouring the planet for kits for a while now  :D

Three days .... three models .... a new record for me.

Actually, three more models than I've made in the rest of the year.  I doubt I can keep this pace up, not least because the shopkeeper in the village is getting suspicious about my usage of such a large quantity of superglue.

An Acclamator class vessel, which would have been obsolete by the time of my ficitious campaign but I will find a way to incorporate it, because I like it!

This kit is another JPG Production casting - which is currently back in production on a very limited run - look for JPG Production on farcebook or try the Starship Modeller store.

...and of course, the group shot of the fast developing fleet....

Last model for a few days - a Victory class Star Destroyer.

This one took a bit of filling with green stuff, but was well worth the extra effort - was making pew pew noises with it by the time it was finished.
