Welcome on board. Enjoy the inspiration you will hopefully find amongst the many threads here. Nice work on those Paroom figures.

Cool forces, will we be seeing red and/or green martians to?
Always glad to see another mars project.
Seeing other people's projects and sharing your own is indead one of the best ways to keep the creative juices flowing imo.
I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Just had a look. Nice collection. I wasn't familiar with hardly any of your miniatures though. Are the Highlanders Old Glory perhaps? And what is the story behind the female figure, in your story?

Hello

Thank you for the kind words!

Most of my regular rank and file, non VSF troops are indeed Old Glory. Some good castings some not so good.
The lady in question is from Rafm 1889.

The Martians are yellowish (ala Space 1889), with four armed Green warriors thrown in to the mix (pictures soon)

I had completely forgotten about the old RAFM range. Are they still available? I don't know much about the Rice-Burroughs Mars world to be honest. Your yellow martians look fine to me

Yes the range is still available, the female model is part of a civilian set.
My red coated British are from the same line as are the yellow Martians.
The Earthers are more like 25mm but work well enough with 28mm.

Question, apart from Rafm does anyone else make similar style Martians?
With Paroom Station gone, I am unaware of any other similar line or suitable figures.

They too are from RAFM, Space 1889, 'Lizard infantry". I believe they came with firearms, though that might have been the martian cavalry, that I have not got around to attaching.

I have chosen to believe that they have chameleon like qualities, hence the red/orange hue while on Martian service.

This posting of stuff is having the desired effect, I have begun assessing what I have, and I am getting ready to dive back in. For good or bad I have discovered nigh upon 120 almost completed Martians...I was so close to being done. There are 80 or so that have been primed desert yellow waiting in the wings and 30 to 40 cavalry.

Thankfully I keep a record of the paints I use so hopefully I can start off from were I left off.
One final note, today, my painting log is dated 2007, boy when I get distracted, I get distracted!

Though you'd think not by the prices some of the folk on eBay are asking...  ;)

Allow me to say 'welcome back' as well.

When I was trying to come up with 15mm Martians for VSF in 15, I remember hearing the Space 1889 sculptor was known for his D&D Elves, and that his work showed it, I considered some old Battlesystem 15's.

One might have a look through old sculpt Elves for something useful, though I can't point you in a particular direction.

Lovely to see.

I believe that any 'Lizard Infantry' for the Space 1889 setting might have been intended for Venus settings? But it's VSF - you can use whatever you want for whatever you need for your campaign.

I'm trying to remember who here has posted up his own work, but the old Grenadier UK Fantasy Elves make really good Canal Martian forces and Hill/Steppes Martian warbands. I've been steadily collecting and painting these myself (ochre skin-tones) for the past 5 years. There's a few figures that literally leap off the front covers of some of the Space 1889 Adventure books.

Someone else may remember the chap's blog and post it up, and I will try and take some pix of mine for you to see.

To get those figures, see here:
http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Wood_Elves.html - I use these as Hill/Steppes Martians
http://www.mirliton.it/ - see the Grenadier Fantasy ranges of Elves

Here's Doug of EM4, in his own words, pointing to Gisby's work.

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=29600.0

I'm not quite seeing Canal Martians, either with or without armor, as done by RAFM, but I don't suppose  you have to follow that vision too closely.

Another source of 15's to consider in the Mirliton, I suppose.  ;)

Thanks Beast - I think Gisby has his own blog where he posts up some of his work.

Those are the Wood Elves figures. I've used High Elves and Dark Elves from the old Grenadier UK ranges recycled from the old 'Fantasy Warrior' rules days so that they are now used as Canal Martians.
