Jez Goodwin's Asgard orcs back in production in the UK!
« on: April 03, 2024, 05:34:34 PM »
Has anyone else noticed this? Very good news, I think, as the Asgard range has a strong claim to being the best set of orcs ever released!

I don't think it's quite the full range yet, as the black orcs, horde orcs and clan orcs aren't there yet. But I presume those will appear in time.

Fingers crossed for the half-troll chieftain (possibly the best miniature of all time!) ...

Cool! I expect that I will be buying some of those over the next few years - can always add more orcs to the horde.

A while ago, Funghy-Fipps (a poster here) used some rather effectively as 15mm trolls.

oh that is a really good idea! I always liked how extreme and hunched the orcs were, and that could work really well in 15mm too

Yes, exactly. Lots of Asgard stuff - especially two of the classic half-trolls - works well because of those hunched positions: they look like they're getting right into the faces of 15mm foes!

What do these half-trolls look like that are being raved about? I don't see them in the links.

They've only rereleased one so far, I think:

John Blanche famously converted and painted up one of the others:

And the mighty half-troll chieftain was a staple of Heroes for Wargames (in which he features twice) and was converted and painted up in spectacular style by luminaries such as Blanche and Nicky Bibby (who designed the half-trolls):

Our own Old Brush posted this spectacular version here:

Viking Forge produces the whole range in the US, by the way.

Ha! I still have that book. I forgot that's what this model was called. I'll have to dig it out and take a look. And thanks for that Viking Forge link. Cheers!
