Very nice, Paul.

Would I be right to assume, that, over time, even factoring in the cost of the 3D printer plus the material for 3D printing, it works out cheaper than resin buildings?

I guess you'd have to print a lot of scenery though, to recoup the cost of the hardware?

Or is it just that there's more choice of 3D printable buildings?

Thanks  :)

The cost per item in materials is minimal, really minimal, pennies.
The cost of the machine is not much, about the same as a console and a game (maybe 2 games).
I get great enjoyment from watching it produce stuff. I also like shopping for free stuff to download and print, it costs nothing and it scratches that retail therapy itch (a bit like browsing for free apps). I've bought far fewer miniatures this year because of this, almost none in fact.

I've had my new machine for 4 days and I've printed (once the current job is done) 36 items. In a couple of months I'll have printed, what? 400 items? (easily, it's addictive) Costing them out to accommodate the £400 the machine cost makes them each £1.00 more expensive. That means that large boat and its sail costs £1.70 instead of £0.70 in materials.
How much is a resin boat? More than £0.70 certainly. After that two months is up the printer's paid for itself and we're back to pennies again.

It's not the be-all and end-all. There are lines on the prints and you have to pick what will work (wood texture hides the lines well) and what won't (smooth vehicles don't look good) but that's the way of things.

In case you missed it I have a thread here on my 3D sculpts
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=98364.0

And a couple of pages on my website detailing how I've got on with my printer and what's what:
http://www.matakishi.net/3d-printing-things.html

Hopefully they'll answer some questions
I'll be adding my thoughts on my new printer once I get some time.

I am thinking of buying one; they look too handy. Unfortunately I have no idea what I should be looking for.

The Prusa/Wanhao/Maker printer (it's branded as many different things) is a very good starting printer for around £300.
It is the most supported on Thingiverse (where the free files come from) and there are endless Youtube videos and articles by its users to advise and troubleshoot.

I got mine from here (so you can see what it looks like):
https://www.technologyoutlet.co.uk/products/3d-printer-wanhao-duplicator-i3

My current printer is this one:
https://www.technologyoutlet.co.uk/products/omega-i3-3d-printer

Which costs £400 but has several improvements over the Wanhao i3.

The one I want to end up with costs £2000
That'll be some time in the future though ;)

Splendid stuff, a right motley and scurvy looking bunch. ;D

If I had to pick a favourite group its the lady pirates. I love the one with the red dress and eye patch combination ;D

Yarrr.
The lady pirates are indeed splendid, but you can't argue with the Dread Pirate Roberts and his foes...

Where did the round wicker shields, the middle two warriors have, come from?

Excellent, the pirates are looking suitably ferocious, I concur with the view that the lady pirates are my favourite group, but I do like ladies with big pistol's.  ;)

I've been slaving at the painting table quite a lot recently.
Here's my Chinese pirate crew:

They're led by a mysterious sorcerer (of course) Master Gau and his spectral foo dogs formed from opium smoke and suggestion.

Some civilians and major NPCs.

And my terrain mat from Deep Cut studios
