S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Misery
« on: November 05, 2016, 02:57:17 PM »
Hi folks,

I am currently working on a little Post-Apoc Project in the Stalker-Theme. I absolutely love the atmosphere of these games, which was enhanced by Mods like Misery and Autumn Aurora. Somehow the gritty and dark post-apoc flavor combined with Soviet-era Industry really fascinates me. I don't plan on playing with these miniatures, but I try to catch the feel of the games.

The miniatures I'm using are converted Russian Mechanized Infantry by Eureka. The have just the right look about them and only need adding gas masks and such.

I finished a first miniature, as well as a few small bits of terrain to pimp the pictures.

Credits to HVM, who helped me catching the atmosphere in this first picture!

Painting these elements was a lot of fun! To get the right look about them I voluntarily painted them in a "dirtier" way, using rust and dirt effects by MIG.

Now Stalker wouldn't be Stalker without creepy mutants and in my opinion the mutated pigs ("fleshes") are some of the most iconic (apart from the absolutely horrifying Bloodsuckers, which I might do later). I sculpted this miniature myself, as there are no suitable miniatures available at the moment. The base was a Champagne cork which already had the right shape and the rest is GS.

More things are being added here soon(ish), I am currently working on a few more miniatures.

I hope you like it!

Cheers,

Marc

I loved STALKER as well. The 1st image is wonderfully atmospheric.

However, I'd also want to game. A STALKER game, with random anomaly tokens would be great fun.

Your first photo is great.
Just what I think STALKERs are about.
Well done.
I have had the Eureka figures for years.
I will get them painted and add them the rest of my guys.

Perfect. My gaming group is hammering out a STALKER-style rule set right now. Anomalies/Artifacts are on the 'To Do' list.

Beautiful work! Great painting!

Also love the STALKER look.

Would you mind sharing any tips on how you put together that first photo?

Mr. Peabody is building a Stalker game.  I think the rules are free!

Wow Gunslinger, that is truly impressive work.  8)  Your sculpt of the 'Flesh' is perfect!

Gary42 is right, our little group here in Vancouver has been playing a Stalker themed campaign for the last couple of months.

Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Hi,

first of all, Thank You very much for the kind word!

@MrHarold: The picture is done by placing the terrain elements in a light-box (I used a small IKEA Table and some with foamcore boards, the set-up is nicely explained in this video: )
I printed out a suitable picture of a misty forest and put that as a backdrop.
The feeling of depth is achieved through the depth of field of my camera. There are good articles on this on the net. Tales of Painters did one for example.

@gary42 / Mr. Peabody: wow that sounds really interesting, maybe I could be convinced to play a game nonetheless. Would you mind sharing a bit more information about this? Do you have written about your campaign here?

Cheers,
Marc

Beautiful paint job - subdued and yet striking.

It's not big, or clever, but let's do it anyway

Marc,

Just this game report here on the PA board.

I've been working on the campaign "Another Roadside Picnic" as well as the game mechanics for a few months now, so still early days...

Very much looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I really dig that first photo. May I ask where are the birches from? Radiation sign and weathering also caught my eye, great work!

@pahvivalmiste: Thanks! The birches are build from scratch! Classic wire tree, sculpted over with milliput for the trunks.
