Dangerboy's Pulp Alley Leagues: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
« Reply #45 on: September 18, 2019, 12:46:30 AM »
Pardon the thread necromancy...

Not really how I spent my summer vacation, but it's been such a long time since I had an update I figured the closing days of summer were as good a time as any. The first two groups are a mix of "Adventure!" types, from the backlog of Copplestone and Pulp Figures I'm slowly making progress through.

This last one is a WIP for a Pulp Alley league, a combination of Heroclix conversions and Copplestone.

Next batch hopefully on a more regular schedule...

You do excellent work. Can you tell me who makes the red masked figure in the last picture?

Thanks. I appreciate the compliment.

Unfortunately, no one makes that figure; it's a conversion from two Heroclix. The good news is that it's a relatively simple conversion, just a head swap using these figures:

For reference, those are the Sandman from the Heroclix Origins set, and Green Lantern from the Unleashed set.

Thank you, that's very kind praise. The materials Heroclix are made of are pretty forgiving and in the past buying  figures in lots was relatively cheap. Pulp Alley is a game with easy setup and a low figure count, so that also allows me to really indulge myself when it comes to converting and painting.

This week I managed to put the final touches on few stragglers from the summer painting frenzy:

More ahead, but making progress.

You are a gifted painter. I can never decide if I like clear bases or not, but yours do look good!

You get a very nice graduation between the highlights and low lights, is that a wash/glaze you are doing to achieve it?

Excellent as before.

Thank you all for the compliments. I appreciate it.

I've never had much success learning techniques like wet blending or loaded brush. So I use what used to be called "layering" or I guess is now called "glazing"*: thin layers atop one another again and again. It's slow, but gives me results that I'm happy with.

*Which is what it was called when I was first learning to oil paint. Go figure.

Thanks, everyone.

A few more models made it through painting and basing as I slowly progress through filling out some old leagues and building up some new ones.

I have to admit that every time I look at the Pulp Figures hypnotist on the left I can't help thinking "Hey buddy, ya wanna buy a watch?"
