British Armour in Egypt 1930s
« on: February 15, 2009, 02:20:33 PM »
About to purchase a Copplestone Vickers Medium and a Company B Rolls Royce A/C.  Does anyone have details of the camo schemes that would have been used in the 1930s in Egypt?
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

I'm guessing that 'sandy' would be the scheme of choice.  :D

My references are vague - but light stone, pale cream, cream or similar seems favourite.

A pale sandy colour - not the modern pink/yellow varieties though.

There was an article on this very thing in last month's Military Modelling which gave an overview of colours and a generic pattern.
It was a two tone sand/terracotta type effect, I don't have it to hand but can look it up this evening.

I've also seen a photo of a medium with the caption "my pink and black tank" - so I'm guessing there was a three tone sceme too.

They also experimented with Asbestos panels to reduce the heat inside the fighting compartment - that would be a dirty "off white colour I guess.

sorry to be a bit vague but hope that helps a bit.

Does the pink bit not refer to the British army desert camoflage paint which when viewed in bright sunlight looked pink. Hence the name the "pink panther" for the armour landrover used by the special forces.
Even if this is true I don't know what the model paint equivalent is. So my post here is a wast of time :'(sorry

The pink I was talking about. I believe this is a more modern paint? ???

if it's pre war 1930's then you have the option of using some of the most outlandish camo schemes ever use by the british army
(check out Warpaint as a usefull reference)

schemes included

2 tone - black on silver
            red ochre on cream
            white asbestos cladding
            cement
            + various sand combos
