Kallistra British for Square Bashing Arras (More Infantry 13/04)
« on: December 09, 2016, 12:21:55 PM »
I've made a start on a Late War British force for the Arras campaign using the splendid Kallistra range.

I'm hoping it'll all be over by Christmas (well, the painting bit. The games will wait for the 100th anniversary)

I like the Kallistra models, they remind me of the original 'true' 15's (when I was a nipper!). I like the puddles that you have added to the bases.

I went through Arras when I was on my way to visit Vimy Ridge.

Great looking figures.

Looking very good, Tom! Strong contrasting colours for helmets and gas mask bags works well.

At the risk of creating the dullest sludgy brown thread ever, here's a couple more stands:

These 8 stands mean half the infantry is done. I love how fast 12mm is to do!

Good stuff. Always good to see more small scale stuff. There is a lot of detail on these kallistra figures - I went with Pendraken mainly because they offer far more on the gun and vehicle side.

To break up the sea of brown I did a small amount of variation in shades of uniforms. Well it varied the shades of brown, rather than breaking up the sea!

Ok some more
For some reason (I blame Warmaster) I was thinking units in Square Bashing consisted of three bases, hence these units.

It has come as something of a blow to learn I have an extra 33% more painting to do (however good news for the Kallistra sales balance so early in the year). I've now completed 24 stands, which is all I can do until I see James later in the week and get some more plastic bases from him. End target is 48 bases, though I think 36 will be enough for most battles.

As a change from just sludge brown, I did some big guns

Nice, I am particularly enjoying the subtle blending of sludge, mud, khaki, dust, dirt and taupe. 😀😀

A very handy guide. I think your final point about increasing the contrast for the helmets and webbing is important to lift the colour of the figures.

I'm also very disappointed that you missed the photo of the figures sprayed brown. I think this is a crucial step and its rather hard to envisage this stage ;)

I've let you down, I've let the hobby down, but most of all I've let myself down.
