Matchbox Battle Kings
« on: December 14, 2016, 10:06:49 AM »
Has anyone else seen or used these diecasts? They are (to my eyes at least) a perfect scale and 'feel'. I've popped the Reaper dumpster on the back for now, lacking any other ideas, in fact I'm in need of some inspiration as to what to do next with the thing. I'll be sure to post pictures of the other vehicles when I get around to them, this being a back-burner/fun project.

Lots of silicon curing going on as a Fogou project nears completion, so plenty of time to play with toy cars! I think I will turn this one into a LRDP or Ray Mears style civilian desert 4x4, with only the front winscreen remaining transparent.

Nice.
I like that.

They do seem to scale up really well.
Great finds, now I feel the need to visit the toy shop, but I think that can wait until after crimbo.

Thanks for the tip-off on this range as I have just picked one of these....

,,,on ebay for a couple of quid and aim to use it in my sci-fi setting.
A quick swap out of those wheels and it should fit in easy enough.

Had a go with a couple of these, and like you I have been working out how to use those trucks - they are great. A couple of my efforts below:

To this...

And then this...

It's not big, or clever, but let's do it anyway

Are these still available?

They have a bit of a 70s/80s look about them (I'm sure I remember one or two from my childhood). Wouldn't surprise me if they're still in production with newer paintjobs and packaging.

Great conversions though. If it wasn't for the time of year I'd be tempted with a browse around Toys R Us and Smyths.

There are plenty of cheap clapped out ones on ebay.
If they are going to be pimped for gaming then 'not exactly new' is not a problem.
I have picked a couple up now for about a quid plus postage.

The latest that I am awaiting is the Hover Craft thingy, which I think will work well for desert colony with a little tinkering....

Ya see what you have started Mr Z!
