Old West Models
« on: December 16, 2016, 05:25:48 PM »
I intend to play Dead Man's Hand at some point so I gathered up some Old West models with the intention of painting them up.  Fast forward 6 months and I finally rescued the first couple refugees from the lead pile.

Great artwork!  I'll be damned isn't that Pat Morita (Arnolds) from Happy Days on the right!

I knew this was going to be a slow burn project among all of my slow burn projects but I figured I would come back.  I still want to create an Old West town and play Deadman's Hand at some point in the future so for now I will keep plugging away.  My first OW models were Black Scorpion figures.  I painted a couple and liked them well enough but once I picked up some Brigade Games models and Artizan figures I realized they were the odd man out.  I plan to stick to 28mm range for this project and don't think I will miss the 32s that much.  I enjoyed painting these these figures and and found myself charmed by them all.  I still have access to scads of nice figures from multiple ranges and can save a bit of coin on slightly smaller terrain.

I ended up rebasing the models I painted at the start.  I prefer the flats for these models and like the way they hug the table.  I'm looking forward to painting more models for this little project.

I already had a preacher so I figured why not a nun?  Visually I considered 2 nules for Sister Sarah but in my head i couldn't see her as a prostitute in disguise.  With the planned brothel in my town with no name and and enough soiled doves to keep you dirty into the next lifetime I didn't see any need for subterfuge.

The nun I have in mind is Sister Blandina as the inspiration for this character.  A sister sent west by the church to teach and provide a sterling example to the morally challenged.

The figure is an old CoC model from a three figure set.  I had hoped to use them for Strange Aeons but they were very tiny and didn't work with other models I had.  Happily this Old West project is a little smaller than most I'm working on so she finally found a home.  Maybe not but there is a possibility of an Old Spanish mission since I saw so many great looking adobe structures on these boards :D .

She likely won't change his ways but there should be many wayward souls in his gravitas that might be swayed by her intervention :D .
