Mick's 10mm Rogue One Scarif Landing Pad (Submitted)
« on: 03 January 2017, 08:25:02 PM »
I have had a very slow project to do ground forces for Star Wars using Micromachines and Titanium Series Spaceships and Pendraken 10mm figures.

The project so far and toy collection is here.  So far terrain is just cardboard islands and cloth sea with a few bits of mutilated plasticard.
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=85835.15

My build for this contest will be the landing pad with main building etc. as a "nice" terrain piece mounted on MDF.

I also plan to scratch build appropriate cargo, droids and loaders.
We may even get LED landing lights too if I can figure that out.
And to top it off, I will populate it with Rogue One characters converted from 10mm Pendraken figures,

I normally work in 28mm so changing to 10mm will be challenging.

The existing parts are crude prototypes.  I hope that you will see the difference. ;)

The last two weeks have been something of a blur.  On 1st January, my son, in England,  informed us that his wife was going into hospital to have her baby 2 weeks early.  My wife found the first available flight and flew to London early the following morning.  Late evening on the 2nd, our first Grandchild was born.   I also went to England to visit my new grandson.

With all this going on, I only started the build yesterday (14th January).

This project is a challenge as it is 10mm and I normally work in 28mm.  Normally, my 10mm scenery is very basic.  For the competition, I plan to make the Scarif landing pad based on the film but modified to be usable wargame scenery.   I also plan to try new techniques by moulding parts using Milliput in simple push moulds.

The first mould is by far the biggest.  I decided to make the bunker at the landing pad as a casting. On Saturday, I made the mould.   This started as a “Mon Cherie” chocolates box with inlays of plywood and cardboard.  I sprayed the mould with a silicon spray.  I mixed ¾ of a packet of Milliput and lined the mould rather like putting pastry into a pie tin.  I left it overnight.

This morning I released the cast, which also destroyed the mould.  The building form looks quite good.  The Milliput was old and the mixing of such a large quantity was slightly uneven.  This meant that some had stuck to the mould and the surface was not as clean as I had hoped.  I will have to do some filling and sanding before painting.
I now have the first part of the project.

Here is the Milliput building, the remains of the mould and the first plasticard building.

Here is the bunker with some paint and a British pound coin to show the size.

If you look closely, you can see mark 1 orange containers and the master for mark 2 orange containers.

This week, I made a new master for the Shuttle Pad corner pieces in plasticard and greenstuff.
I then made a mould for this using two part silicon rubber and cast four pieces in plaster.

Here you see (left to right) Original plasticard prototype, new master, silicon mould, plaster cast (inked),

I also started on the characters.  These are 10mm Pendraken figures modified with greenstuff and dress-making pins.
These are mounted on small coins.
Here are Chirrut with staff, Chirrut with lightbow, Baze with MWC-35c Staccato Lightning.

Impressive results, and the technique you used to cast that hangar was a new one for me.

The tiny conversions are excellent, too!

I have been busy with work.  I went to a seminar in Amsterdam and then an exhibition in Munich.
Today is the first day in nearly three weeks to do something.

I recast the corners in Milliput so that they are more durable.
I cut some beach sections from cork mats.
I have fitted LED lights to the landing strip.

So next is sand and final painting.

Regards

Mick

I think painted pics are supposed to be sent in and not shown in the build threads?

Cool project either way, looks great!
