Sci-Fi APCs in 28mm or 1/48 Scale?
« on: January 11, 2017, 12:49:07 AM »
I just got a bunch of Pig Iron and Anvil Industries sci-fi troopers and I am looking for a vehicle or two for them.

I like the Pig Iron one but the lack of a convincing driver position kinda ruins it for me.

Otherwise, the best I have seen thus far are from Old Crow and from Antenociti.

I understand that Old Crow's are more like 25mm size, not 28mm, and they look a bit small.  Great for HF's Grymn but not for bigger 28mm guys.  Here's a fantastic example: https://tabletopperharley.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/grymngroup1.jpg

I want something like these but in 28mm heroic.

Antenociti has the right idea with these: http://www.beastsofwar.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Antenocitis-Workshop-15mm-APC.jpg  and  https://shanehugh.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/20140408_125237_zpsyfagwsbk.jpg

But they're really expensive.

It seems like most of the really cool ones are only in 15mm, too.

Does anyone have any recommendations?  Thanks!

As seen above in Dentatus' link, the bigger Old Crow vehicle IMCO would work with 28mm but not with 32+mm (especially "heroic" versions thereof). I have the 8-wheeler but I haven't put it together.

Khurasan has the Caiman: http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/28mmscifi.html (scroll down to "28mm Federal Army")

Prodos has the Mule: http://shop.prodosgames.com/warzone/284-mule-armoured-carrier.html (a bit retro plus it's a Prodos mini which may or may not be a problem)

Neither is very cheap tho.

OTOH BroneKorpus tanks from Tehnolog (Russia) are cheap but as is typical for that company they are little toyish and on the small side, plus they are supposed to be tanks moreso than APCs, but since they are plastic they are easy to work on. Not sure if they are available anywhere else than on eBay, here's a seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BroneKorpus-Battle-Tank-Company-by-Tehnolog-10-fighting-vehicles-/131768777784

Here's a comparison shot of that last with a GW guardsman:

Anvil Industries do their own apc - Cobra, which presumably is suitably sized

DLD Productions used to, so there may be some on e-bay. He's restarting production, but has gone for 15mm last I read :(

Puppetswar have a good range in resin, and turrets and accessories to go with them:

https://puppetswar.eu/category.php?id_category=195

Bitspudlo do a nice range too, resin again, including hover versions of vehicles:

http://bitspudlo.com/t/category/216-bitsbox-dot-eu/235-tanks-and-gun-platforms

Old Crow do two sizes of 28mm resin vehicles - compare for yourself:

The Bronekorpus tanks mentioned by tnjrp do paint up and weather nicely, but are a little on the small side.  No worse than Old Crow, to be honest, and insanely cheap.  And plastic:

Daemonscape have a nice cheap range - the old GZG 25mm resin vehicles.  Again, a little on the small side, but lovely models:

The Cobra would be scaled for Afterlife tho (if it were currently available), which is AI's "28mm 'non-heroic'" line. As opposed to their other lines which are more @ "28mm 'heroic'" AFAIK. Not sure which ones ErikB got but he did mention the h word.

A few comments:

-I second the folks who said Tehnolog/Bronekorpus.  They're quite versatile and cheap.  Some think they're too small, but compare them to the size of an M113 and it's clear that they're just right.  APC's are often quite cramped.  I've got 3 built as APCS and look forward to adding more.

-Right now North Star Miniatures is having a half off sale on Warzone. There's a couple of Tanks in there that you might be interested in.

-The Scotia Grendel are generally good, but the Nexus tanks are very small. Great as Squat tanks though.

-As well as the Caiman, Khurasan also has the Polecat small APC which could carry a fireteam.  Sort of like a futuristic hummer.

-One thing to note about the Dreamforge tank is that it is HUGE.  Bigger than most main battle tanks.

Might not be of any interest but have you looked at Matchbox Battleking's and Adventure 2000  range for conversion (cheap as chips on E-Bay) - have borrowed this suggestion from Clanrat who refers to Zaheer's great thread on the workbench

Cheers
