The show is actually made by the Sy-Fy channel. I really enjoy the books. They are believable space opera, but not quite "hard" sci-fi, and like most science fiction are really about modern earth politics and society. They contain a lot of commentary and observation on the modern world. The book and show are different, but aren't they always? Just take them both for what they are, two different forms of media presenting the same story in their own way. However, that said, that picture of Bobby Draper above is the first I've seen of the character in the TV show and I'm not too impressed. She just looks like a typical actress, pretty, in good shape, but in no way believable as a bad ass marine. Why do Hollywood have an aversion to showing strong women actually represented by strong women? I've seen some female US Marines, and I've sparred with some big women at Kickboxing class, and that woman playing Draper doesn't look the part.

I might make it x wing game scale too if is not too vast.
Ships might be too big for that...

Bobby is already shown everywhere. Video and all.
The actress is 1,80m (OK not the 2m of the book Bobby) but still big enough, she is also a boxer. I am confident that she has the presence needed for the role.

I am on it, I already painted a test Martian Marine.
Will show soon.

I binge watched the while season 1 in a weekend. Loved it, a bit of cyberpunk, a bit of Red Faction, some hard Sci fi  (the Martian marines were so cool).

So much potential for gaming, I'm leaning towards 15mm scale I think. Maybe with ghosts of hefei or the department rule set

Not having read the books it needs a little more fleshing out at the moment.

Who the Martian Marines are going to be shooting at isn't entirely clear yet.

Yeah, I was thinking more dungeon, er, corridor/ship/port crawls ala Rogue Stars/TV7/whatever. Not that a few marines couldn't show up.

I could point to a few scenes, but I ain't doing the spoiler thing.  ;)

I second the general opinion - the series was very enjoyable, (I'd not previously associated SyFy's output with quality, so was very pleasantly surprised) I look forward to series 2.

Really enjoyed the series, watched it twice now.  :)

Looking forward to the start of the next but hope there's more combat in it.

Ah, she didn't look that impressive in the picture, but looking at the link you posted I can see she's a better fit than I thought. Rant retracted, about her anyway, not about Hollywood in general.

Funnily enough I thought of Antares minis when watching. . The Martian marines look a bit like some of them!

Apparently X-Wing miniatures are nominally 1/270 scale, but they have done larger ships in 1/400 and 1/450 (ish) scale.

So at 1/270 scale the 46m Rocinante would be 17cm long.

Their Armada game doesn't go for a set scale, but the miniatures are

CR90: 150m 57.62mm
Nebulon-B: 300m 91.15mm
Victory SD: 900m 137.39mm
Gladiator SD:  500m 90.88mm
Assault Frigate 2: 700m 98.50mm (from nose to end of engine bell)
MC80 Home One: 1200m 185mm-ish
Imperial SD: 1600m 207mm-ish
Raider: 150m 57.81mm
MC30c: 580m 110.64mm
Gozanti: 53m 36.71mm
GR-75: 90m 41.64mm
Interdictor: 600m 160mm-ish
Liberty: 1200m 176.00mm-ish

So, after playing with excel I would suggest the following miniature sizes to match FFGs Star Wars games:-

Ship/'Real' length/Proposed Scale/Miniature Length

X-Wing

Knight 20m 1/270 74.07mm
Rocinante 46m 1/270 170.37mm
Stealth 100m 1/400 250mm
Scopuli 150m 1/450 340mm

Armada

Knight 20m 1/1512 13.22mm
Rocinante 46m 1/1719 26.76mm
Stealth 100m 1/2136 46.81mm
Scopuli 150m 1/2530 60.47mm
Nathan Hale 270m 1/3346 80.69mm
Donnager 475.5m 1/4600 103.37mm
Canterbury 1000m 1/6767 147.77mm

I came home from my weekly RPG session last night through what passes for a full scale blizzard around here and was so hyper and alert that I couldn't sleep and decided to watch the first episode.

I was not disappointed!1 I really like it, and had to force myself to not let the second episode start immediately after, since I still have to work today and 0130h is late enough on a school night... ::)

But I fear this weekend I will be binge watching as it looks great and the story is intriguing enough.

And sorry teach, but I absolutely loathe those little hats too.  They seem to be the headgear of choice for small time card sharks, ticket scalpers, petty criminals and/or sleazebags.

None of which categories you're in I'm sure. Of course! Definitely! (Do I still pass the course?) :D

But remaining with the hats; a fedora is just as bad IMHO... It should only be worn by swashbuckling archeologists, period. ;)

But enough with the hats already; on with the scifi!! lol
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...
Find a Way, or make one!
