Yeah, the leaning Olog Hai always did look a tad unsteady, but a classic nonetheless.

I wish I had kept hold of mine now. I had over 20. They were £2 each in the 80s!

Both Ologs remind me of this classic Ian Miller troll from the Tolkien Bestiary (marred by poor text but blessed with splendid illustrations):

It would make a nice figure if someone would sculpt it.

Okay, foot and mounted versions of Gandalf and Saruman (both foot varieties) next. I know it's not a good idea to meddle in the affairs of wizards, but I wasn't completely sure they were having an affair ... although Gandalf was bragging that he comes neither early nor late, but exactly when is supposed to, so make your own mind up about it.

Spot the 'Saruman of Many Colours' robes with subtle shades in the creases.

More cracking painting.

I always liked that mounted Gandalf figure. The mounted Saruman one less so.

I was a little worried that Saruman had moved between photos, then I read the notes again.

The mounted Saruman is ... a little odd isn't he? He looks more like a Hobbit version of Gandalf (and may well have started life that way) and has, to my mind, entirely the wrong vibe to him. He's way too homely on his little trotting pony. Maybe they were struggling to find a good look for him to complete the 'foot and mounted' set.

Yep, very odd. Considering they went to the trouble of making two foot poses. The mounted one is just odd, the tiny pony, the hunched wizard. Not really the right look at all. Kind of travelling hedge wizard. Most of the rest of this range are very good sculpts.

Great stuff Cubs. The Gandalf is my favourite,  absolutely superb. I have the Witchking somewhere though I think I milliputted a face on him when I was a kid.

Ridiculously beautiful painting! I wish I had kept mine so I could spend all my money having you paint them! :)

Maybe that is Saruman heading for the Shire after his defeat at Orthanc? The white robes and staff aren't a good disguise, but folks would have been wary of him by reputation, defeated or no...

You did a great job on all of these miniatures.
I think Sarumans crouching on the horse fits to the sneaky guy he is!

Missed this thread - really, really nice painting (even the weird mounted Saruman!). Great stuff.

Great painting - yeah I see that Saruman figures hunched over an old nag as after he is defeated.  I presume before then he wouldn't have lowered himself to riding on a mere horse.  Carried on a litter if he had to go anywhere but why should he go anywhere ? Others can come to him.

The Wizards are WONDERFULLY painted & BEAUTIFULLY based creations. VERY WELL DONE!
I just keep thing just how they would have looked if you hadn't done them as Lord of the Rings characters.
I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx
