That is some splendid brushwork.
These figures will hit my own Middle Earth blog at some point, but not to this degree of art.
Also, is it me, or does anyone else hear 70's porn music when looking at mustachioed Elrond?

Great painting on some memorable figures. I think I like the Knight the best, both the figure and the blue paint scheme.

I remember the Aragon figure from back in the day, its huge, but I don't think I'd realised it was Aragon back then.

Love these!

And now I know what that spare horse I have is (Elrond one)!

Outstanding!

It's a funny range, that old Citadel LotR one. I think the baddies were generally better done than the goodies - but you've certainly made the most of those three. The knight of Dol Amroth's a nice model - but one feels for Aragorn's poor little pony!

I was wondering why on earth the poor thing had so much hanging off it, plus the enormous Aragorn and his unfeasibly huge ornate sword. I guess that's why it's fantasy!

Couple more done. I've gotta say, I do enjoy the aesthetics of these old babies, but every time I have to prep one, it makes me glad manufacturers don't use the old casting methods any more.

First up a Gondorian soldier, foot and mounted. Black ... black ... black ... it's all so black ... I can hear the moon, she's crying in a secret room ... etc ...

Second is a Rohirrim (equipped with a fine hooter), foot and mounted again. I tried to make the device in the middle of his shield look a bit like an ancient white chalk horse figure on a hillside, but it looks a little like a balloon animal close up. Just squint a bit, it'll be fine.

Great stuff as ever!

Do you have any of the baddies from the range lined up for this project?

Only a Nazgul and Tom Bombadil left for this lot sadly. Maybe some way down the line?

Oh, now I mention it, I do have a couple of Orcs of the White Hand in my drawer somewhere I think. They could no doubt do with a lick of paint.

Probably the best answer really. Although I'd have preferred him to be divided vertically, with one half of the face having a full beard with bristling eyebrows and the other half smooth and clean shaven.

New lot of lovelies done now. I couldn't have asked for more contrast between the subjects for this job, so much so that I changed my painting style for each one to get the effect I wanted.

First up is Tom Bombadil, carrying a pile of water lilies home for his Goldberry. It took me a while to work out what exactly he had on his hand (I thought it was a tray of food to start with) and it wasn't until I was part way through painting that I fully realised what I was looking at. I love his beaming, jovial face.

Here's the wonderful Fatty Lumpkin. The book doesn't actually tell us what colour he is, but Tom does call him White Socks at one point, so I made sure he had those. Please note the fun fuzzy moss tufts that were homemade and I've very happy with. Ah, the fun with a static grass applicator!

Right, well that wholesome and lovely stuff out the way, things take a turn towards the dark with the Witch King. I umm'd and ahh'd for a while about what metal to give him - old bronze, or dark gold, but I plumped for an old iron look.

The base I deliberately left very bleak looking, like volcanic rocks and ash with just the hint of some sickly plant life struggling to survive. I also wanted the horse to have that blooded look like in the films, where it's been driven mad with the pain and horror, so can no longer feel the pain of its cruel treatment ... or something.

Nostalgia turned right up to eleven. All looking amazing - really inspirational.

Quite like the 'Mordor dressage' thing going on there too. Ringwraiths need something to do in their spare time.
