One thing I did not mention was they were only £3 for four, so even with the printing issues they were good value.

Yes, it does perplex me why companies use 3D printed masters without tidying them up a bit. I assume they're having a third party handle the whole process or something, as the print lines and other defects would be obvious at a glance and yet simple to rectify. Yet they're such a consistent fault that there must be some reason beyond just wanting to put the product out ASAP.

Perhaps the large pieces of vehicles and these take the longest, so whatever third party is printing them is charging a lot and they can hardly pay for the test prints and a final print, along with any additional cleaning. ...But that would only make sense if the company also somehow could just take a scalpel, sandpaper and a bit of clay to the masters once they receive them.

Yup, confusing.

Edit: As a comparison Ainsty Castings set of 3 barriers is £4.50. Spectre do a more detailed set of 7 for £9.99. It may begin to matter when buying these in bulk. I'm sure other companies do them cheaper however. ...And they are a simple shape to replicate and cast up yourself to be honest (I'd be more inclined to buy a set of plastic barriers personally - which I believe TT Combat or another American company does. One of the ones in the PA Board's list).

@Wyrmalia, yes it is odd.

The Evil Bear Foxhound is smooth except on the back:

That back door could have easily been sorted too.

The disappointing thing is while the barriers are cheap it would have taken 20 mins to fill/sand those masters and have an all round better product.

Problem is the reliance on 3d masters and not putting the time in the finess them.  Especially on flat surfaces like that.  A skim of filler or a scrape with a knife would have sorted that.
Better still print the doors seperately and flat then stick them on after (Or leave them off and allow an open back?

My M48 has taken a LOT of repeat prints to get right and I'm still sanding/finessing bits after.  I'll replace handrails with wire and so on to make sure they are as correct as I can get them sensibly.

Its that I know companies using 3D printed masters do clean up their casts. Whereas yes, other ones are print line riddled messes.

...Though similarly, when bring up casting defects with some communities they try and ignore them, or say they aren't a problem. So perhaps companies assume their customers just don't care. Weird. They annoy the hell of me when I see them.

Arggh! And that will be difficult to clean up for the customer.

At least with the Foxhound they are in the same plane as the surface, not diagonally across it (chosen to improve the print detail elsewhere at a guess).

Once I am back with a UVS email enabled device, I will drop them a line about them and see what they say.

At that price (and with my abilities) I am okay with them, it is just as you say, they could be so much better.

If they are print to order then you are stuck with print lines to a degree, there is no margin on 3d printed stuff to spend an hour finessing every print, but I’d adjust the print to avoid them on flat surfaces (Or split the model and provide separate back doors for example)

But if it’s 3d print then cast there is no excuse, why go to the trouble of making moulds of stuff that have such glaring problems?

(Better double check my M48 for print lines now…)

The new technologies mean that new players can enter the field, this does mean that sometimes they lack the experience of actually producing products suitable for the market. Sometimes you have to fall back on traditional technologies (your intent to add the accordion to the M48 being a suitable example) or smooth out a digital print with sandpaper and filler.

We have seen that with digital sculpted figures, some have been very bad because the sculptor lacks the required knowledge of anatomy of how material drapes. Sometimes they learn, sometimes they do not (have a look back at the Wargames Factory stuff).

I guess it’s the crossover from traditional model making to digital model making.

I could piss around for hours trying to make the canvas cover drape in CAD or I could just add some greenstuff/miliput and sculpt it in about 10 mins.  I’m not very good at sculpting but I should be able to make a canvas cover.

Working in one medium alone is very limiting.  While I’d love to be able to do it all digitally actually it’s the final form that matters not the medium by which it’s created.

So, after nearly six months, something new for my Modern WIP.

And it is rubbish. Bags of it.

Debris of War do a range of Urban scatter terrain, including Bin Bags (individually and in piles). I bought a pack at Colours 2019 but was pondering how to base them.

I decided to use the smaller pile on a 25mm base, the larger on a 40mm base. So that I could push them closer to walls, I used a razor saw to remove a piece from each base.

This allows them to be used in alleys and on streets.

The V100 was used outside of Vietnam (and is a standard APC for Morrow Project teams).

I have painted this one for a drier climate (it may be used by some of the Crooked Dice Governor General's army).
It has Spectre smoke dischargers, small case (for the first aid kit) and jerry cans.

The decals are Warlord German tank numbers, the registration numbers and the first aid marker are from the Rubicon Jeep and the weight marker is from the Rubicon LRDG Chevy.

And here it is with the US Military Police one for Vietnam.

I suspect there might be another, this time fully loaded for The Morrow Project and Twilight 2000.
